Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Some fun Dylan Harper stats:

- 80% of his made field goals were unassisted
- Took over 8 attempts at the rim per game
- Shot 68% at the rim
- 22 steals in his last 10 games of the season
- Shot 50% on unguarded C&S threes

Harper is my favorite player in the draft class. Flagg is obviously the better prospect and player but I watched more Rutgers than any other team this year and fell in love with Dylan.
He’s #1 on my board for “this guy would ****ing hate playing in Utah” that’s not really based on anything, but maybe his dad is enough.

Does that factor in at all?

It does as maybe a tiebreaker for prospects but he’s so far ahead of anyone else not named Flagg that I wouldn’t let it affect me.

My dad’s thoughts are a lot different than my personal thoughts. I know that might not be the case for everyone but with someone with a much older parent (like Dylan) it definitely is.

If you only looked at the hits list, you would say that drafting athletic wing is good...but if you only looked at the busts lists you would also come away with the conclusion that athletic wing is high bust potential. It's definitely hit and miss.

I don't know if there's a real trend to decipher who is real and who isn't, but it does seem like high skill level/BBIQ are king amongst the wings. Guys like Barnes and Wagner were able to increase their role in the NBA whereas Okoro and Williams did not. So if you're hoping for an uptick in role, you might want to consider their ball handling, playmaking, and BBIQ instead of the simple "if he can shoot" test. If you count Amen and Ausar, there are a lot of wing sized guys that have gotten by without an elite jumper. Instead they are great defenders, and on offense they are ball handling + playmaking wings. The Igoudala mold if you will.

I've been looking at Ace compared to previous wing prospects, namely Tatum, Brown, and Ingram. If you blinded their names, you might think Ace played college in like 2001 or something. He definitely has the most old school game in the sense that he does not get to the efficient shots. Jaylen Brown was probably the worst college player, but he was still a force getting to the rim. It's hard to know how how much of Ace's backwards play is due to lack of ability or his own choosing. And if it's his own choosing, is he willing to change?

One thing I will say about Ace….he really is one of the best shot makers to come out of college and that includes the elite of the elite prospects. Guys like Ingram, Tatum, etc were lauded for their shot making ability and that translate to the NBA, but Ace is in like another world on converting these tough 2’s. Tbf to the other guys, they also had better handles, but Ace makes long twos at an efficiency and volume very few have.

I think a lot of players get overrated for being shot makers when in reality they are just shot takers. He lacks many of the big things I like in a prospect, but in this specific area he does appear to be legit.

His lack of moreyball is pretty damn worrying though ngl.

Want to know how insane Dylan Harper’s rim finishing is for his size?

Here is the list of freshman who averaged 17+ PPG and shot 70%+ on close 2’s:

Zion Williamson
Marvin Bagley
Deandre Ayton
Dylan Harper
Ben Simmons
Jahlil Okafor

Absolutely insane company for a guard.

The Portsmouth Invitational starts in two days. There might be players the Jazz are interested in for those sweet second round picks.

Man in the early 90's dudes could do Portland and turn themselves into lottery picks.
You have a great memory. I didn't remember this at all, so I looked it up. Lots of very good players went through Portsmouth including John Stockton.

Not really memory, well maybe. I remember in the old days reading scouting reports on draft picks (pre internet NBA fans on this side of the world read a lot more about the game than we watched.) and they'd speak about how their stock improved dramatically at Portsmouth. I also remember reading I think in the athletic? about how today agents tend to hold back top 20 prospects from Portsmouth cause they're worried it can hurt their stock, they were saying back in the day only the top 5 or 6 prospects would skip it max.

Do you have a subscription to a college stats site, or where are you getting your stats from?

If so, could you look up Kas's catch and shoot vs pull up numbers? Both quantity and percentages?

It feels like when I watch Kas he is mostly taking pull ups, which I'm pretty sure hurt his numbers quite a bit.
