Following Potential 2025 Draftees

First of all, you're way overreacting to this. Second of all, two players who are both 4-year seniors, playing PG, both 6'3/6'4", 190 lbs, with comparable shooting splits are somewhat comparable entering the league. The transition from NCAA to NBA is significant enough, that you can't overreact to what a player does in college, or think he's limited to that role. For Clayton to make it in the league, he's going to start as an off-ball shooter, playing off of the primary initiator, with some ability to drive and score on bigger defenders and secondary playmake. He may also be able to play more of a lead-guard role off the bench (backup point guard). That's how Nembhard started. Nembhard didn't become a regular starter until his 3rd year, and that's due to his ability to play off of Haliburton in a fairly egalitarian offensive system. The fact that Nembhard is as effective as he is in these playoffs might bode well for Clayton if he can follow a similar path.

So these are the kind of comments that make me wonder if we’re talking about the same player. Nembhard became a starter his rookie year and it had nothing to do with his offense. He was a really bad offensive player and you could argue he still is. Nembhard is a defensive combo guard and that’s why he’s on the court. He’s a very bad shooter for an NBA guard but makes up for it with his defense. He may have had a good offensive game recently, but don’t create fan fiction about his entire career because of it.

Clayton is complete opposite. If he makes his way in the NBA it won’t be because he’s a great defender and terrible shooter. He will make it because he’s a great shooter and if he makes it big it’s because he’s becomes an excellent off the dribble shooter. If you listed out each guys strengths and weaknesses they’d basically be a direct opposite of each other.

Payton Pritchard would be the ceiling comp for Clayton imo. Way better comp than Andrew Nembhard.

Not that I really think we need a comp to understand Clayton. He's an undersized combo guard who shoots a lot of 3's. We know who those players are in the NBA (not Andrew Nembhard).

Will he be able to make shots at the NBA level and not get dismantled on defense? That's really the only question you need answered.

Whether you like or dislike Clayton, he’s probably one of the most uncomplicated prospects in the draft. It’s clear what his strengths and weaknesses are, and there are countless examples of guys in his archetype that have succeeded and failed. It’s not like you have to dig deep to find offensive guards that struggle on defense. Pick any of them….just don’t pick a defensive combo guard who struggles to shoot lol.

No, it's their athleticism, ability to create with the ball, ability to get shots off against bigger defenders, and shooting touch. Nembhard has been really impressive driving the ball in this series with the Bucks. He's punching above his weight class. That's where I saw some comparison.
Nembhard shot 29% from 3 this season.....

My “deep” sleeper list on my radar for second round selections are:

Sion James: Big, physical combo guard who can defend and has great role player attributes

John Tonje: Good NBA body, three point shooter, free throw merchant, highly efficient

Payton Sandfort: Bad year but once considered one of the best shooting prospect, good decision maker, decent frame

Tahaad Pettiford: Tiny, explosive athlete, good pull-up jumper, great floater

Unfortunately, I think any half decent stash candidate will be playing college ball instead. So mostly looking at guys competing for a two way.

Kobe brea - i am willing to bet on his shooting.

Tyrese Proctor - has nba role player written all over him.

Bogoljub Markovic - Played in the Nike hoops summit. Willing to bet on his potential.

Adou Thiero - Obvious name but his athleticism and defense is elite.

Maybe not ALL "deep sleepers"

Cedric Coward - guy was a monster before the injury.

Thiero will go to GS/SA or OKC and turn into a steal of the draft.

Then I will cry.

I mean, he's an NBA athlete for sure. Athletically, he looks like OG Anunoby at Indiana. The question is, what happens if he never shoots the ball well enough? Golden State already has Kuminga whom they won't play.

If we're calling deep sleepers, I'll mention Rocco Zikarsky again. He's got a fantastic name to blow up in my face if he busts, but I think he can be good. He's huge, he moves well and he's got great hands to catch and finish around the basket.

I'm kind of waiting for the final draft list to come out before thinking about 2nd round / picks sleepers.

I have a feeling that there are going to be a ton of guys that go back to school this year and the second round will be the scrap heap.

I believe the day that guys have to decide if they are going back to school is May 28th, 10 days after the draft combine.

Clemson has a 7 foot Russian who destroyed the Dookies this season. He was the best player on the floor that night including Cooper Flagg.
