Forrest and Brantley Extended Offers, Morgan Not

Two way info is hard to find. I don’t believe you can keep the guy restricted for more than one year in a two way… so since we did it last year I don’t think we can do it again. I don’t have time to deep dive it but I think Jordan McLaughlin in Minnesota may have some articles where it mentions this.

So he can get up to three but since we offered the QO after two it’s minimum salary.

None of these dudes is ever going to be an NBA player. I’m fine with Forrest coming back on a two way, but I’d definitely nab a new developmental guy for Brantley’s spot.

If Brantley was offered something besides a two-way (which I guess would have to be the case if it is true he can’t get another two-way deal), that’s a major headscratcher for me. The guy has done nothing to earn a contract.

Brantley can defend wings and 4s, keep the ball moving, and make an occasional shot. He would have been more playable in that Clippers series than Niang was.

His offense has never really meshed with the Jazz, except when he's running the 3rd unit as a point-forward.

This Summer League and camp are very important for him. He didn't get that chance last year.

So Forrest is getting another two-way with 50K guaranteed and Brantley is getting a minimum contract unless he declines for some reason.

Forrest will probably be our 3rd-string PG behind Butler, imo. I think Butler is going to get some meaningful minutes this year in order to rest Conley. Jazz may have to load manage Conley 1 out of every 4 or 5 games. Otherwise, Conley's hamstring may make that decision for them on its own.

Multiple guys have said this so it probably is true. Problem is I can’t find it on the internet anywhere. I wonder what the qualifying offer is for Brantley then and what determines how much it is.

Neither Oni's or Matt Thomas' contract are guaranteed this year. If one of them gets cut, Brantley will likely take that salary slot. Niang may not be coming back next season.

I remember reading a few different media people say that minivan is the heart of the locker room. So like it or not I am sure the FO will make an effort to keep him here. And I like him as a person so I am happy if he stays. I would also be happy for him if someone else offers him a bigger payday.

Never been a Brantley believer, but he actually plays with some life unlike Oni. Same with Forest. Even though he can't shoot he actually plays the game with some purpose.

At this point I'd probably rather keep Thomas than Oni. Oni is such a strict 3&D player, but he isn't a good shooter and his D is flawed. At least I trust Thomas to be a threat that teams have to think about

I'm not opposed to resigning Morgan, especially if it comes by way of Hinkie special. We should have got him on a 4 year Hinkie when we pulled him out of the G-League anyways.

In theory, he's kind of that Nance/Thad Young 4/5 combo that we could use. I've always liked him and I'm pretty confident in saying he's a better player than Doke right now.

I think we should limit the number of C's we carry on the roster, however. I'd be OK with 3 under contract and using a Two-Way on another C. Going into the season with just Morgan and Doke backing up Gobert is pretty risky. I think it would be wise to get a Vet.

Could Brantley see actual/meaningful playing time? I mean..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... maybe?

sup Quin?
Quin blows his load for fat so Niang

I will be interested to see how Brantley and Forrest do in summer league. Has Forrest found a shot? Brantley's college teammate Joe Chealey is also playing. I will be interested to see the guys we have never heard of.

Most of what he’s earned has been away from your prying eyes. A fan hasn’t seen enough. He needs real playing time.

I believe in Brantley’s talent. The idea of Oni is better than player. But I like Oni better than Thomas.
Forrest is a 3 pt shot away

Morgan was undoubtedly the better GLeague player. Dude was an absolute beast in GLeague, mich better than Brantley.

But the NBA isn't the GLeague and for whatever reason Utah seemed to have no faith in Morgan to play the small ball 5 role he had in the GLeague that made him so dominant. Brantley played well this year in his limited . minutes.

Forrest is the one guy of those I feel has been close to being a significant contributor. His shot is obviously way off what it needs to be, but if he could work his three up to moderately useful (when open), I feel that his drives and generally his paint game is hard to stop.

I like brantleys ability to handle the ball and distribute it at his size. He has really good vision. Wish he could shoot it better. I have no idea about his defense but he has the physical tools.
If Forrest was a great shooter he might be an all star. Doesn't seem to have any other weakness in his game.

I’m fine with keeping Forrest on a two-way, and hell, even Brantley.

I don’t think Brantley has shown near enough to warrant a real roster spot or an NBA contract.

Brantley moves his feet pretty well on defense, but team defense can be improved quite a bit. He also shot 43% on 3s, though admitedly it was a tiny sample size (12/28).
