Chad Ford: Hornets, Rockets, Pacers & Nets working on 4 team deal. Ariza to NO. C. Lee to HOU. Collison & Posey to IND. Murphy to NJ.

The Hornets are really banking on CP3 sticking around, apparently.

I'm curious to see how Indiana does with the pickup of Collison. Sure, he's smaller than your average PG, but he shoots well enough (.477 for 2s, .400 for 3s, and .851 for FTs) and has shown that he can rack up assists. His assists/TO ratio isn't that stellar (just over 2.1) but when paired with Granger, Hibbert, and the "promising" rookies that Indiana has, he ought to do well.

I'm not so sure that the Hornets "won" on this trade. Ariza is a good player, but is he *that* much better than Posey? I think the loss of Collison hurts more than the gains made by getting Ariza.

N.O. gives up the player with the most potential in the deal and takes on the worst contract. Good job Hornets!

Well Archie was saying that the Hornets should trade Chris Paul to keep Collison. So take that for exactly what it's worth.

Just realized Ariza's deal 6yr 35mil is similar to Wes Mathews 5yr 32mil, Ariza's average is less per year then Mathews. So if anybody thinks Ariza's deal is bad then Mathews' deal has to be the same, personally I think they're just slightly over paid by 2mil per yr for good role players.

Good deal for Indy, but they sacraficed some of their cap space for next summer by taking on Posey's terrible contract. They are loaded at the wing positions (Granger, George, Rush, Dunleavy, D. Jones, Stephenson), so we might see another trade from them soon. I actually like what N.O. did considering the circumstances. They wanted to cut payroll and add young talent. Collison is good, but he was always going to back up CP3. Posey was a bloated contract.

Also, I heard that N.O. had a follow-up deal in place to trade Julian Wright to the Raptors for Marco Belinelli.

Love the deal for Indy. Picked up a starting pg and an experienced vet in Posey. They should still be in a great situation as far as the salary cap goes next season and already have a core of Granger, George, Collison, and Hibbert... plus supporting players like Posey, Lance Stephenson, and Hansborough. If they can get a star to join them next year via free agency... they're going to have a nice team.

People are vastly overrating Posey on this board. In 22+ minutes per game last year, he averaged just 5.5 ppg on 36.5% shooting and 33.5% from three--those numbers are God awful. Add in the fact that he's not the same defender he once was and his complete existence (and contract) in NO was absolutely terrible. Though his numbers are not a ton better, Ariza's a solid upgrade (better fg% that should only improve with less to shoulder and Paul to get him the ball) over him, at this stage in their careers a much better defender, and adds stability to the wings situation in NO that they've badly needed for years. While Collison is very good, he was nothing more than a backup there so his loss is nominal for them as far as wins and losses. While I think they could get more for Collison, the facts are he didn't win games for them, they save 1.5M this year, and we may not know all the particulars just yet--perhaps they get a draft pick or something. In this regard, it makes some sense for NO though admittedly if I were them, I would not pull the trigger on the deal without a 1st rounder back from someone.

Not saying Posey is what he used to be... but his salary won't be an issue for Indy. With all of the guys they have coming back... even if they pick up the team options for Hansoborough, Hibbert, and Rush... they will currently still have less than 35 million in committed salaries for next year (that includes Posey's contract). Plus... Posey and Collison's contract are cheaper this year than what Murphy was going to make.

My assessment was more from NO's perspective, not Indiana's.

Millsap would be perfect for Indy. They need a 4. If the Millsap at 4/AJ at 5 duo doesn't work out, maybe it's something to think about so long as an Indy unprotected 1st is involved.

Who plays sf in Houston now?

Does this make NO a playoff team?
How long would they be if they start

pg-Paul
sg- Ariza
sf-Peja
pf-West
c- Okafur

They will start Thornton and Ariza. If Ariza can learn to play efficiently, it will be a good trade.

Thrilled with this. As you guys probably know (because I mention it often enough) Indiana is my second team, after the Jazz. Collison helps them tremendously. The latest word on T.J. Ford is, he's not interested in taking a buyout. The Pacers are now overloaded with wings, and still need a power forward. They still have more expiring contracts. Larry Bird said, in the press conference today, that he can't imagine going into the season with the same group of players currently under contract. More trades are likely for Indiana. If they can't pull off another great trade like this one, I see the potential for them to give away one of their players to make room for Magnum Rolle. It will be interesting to see what happens...

And by the way, this puts Indiana in the playoffs.

Yep, great trade for Indy, even with eating Posey's contract. PF for them is really t-h-i-n; at best, "young and developing"... Actually, Ariza is a nice pickup, but Courtney Lee, not as athletic, has his head on a lot straighter. Hated to see Lee get traded from Orlando. Houston did good here too...
