Fredette homer admittance thread

Time for all you Great White Hope homers to come out of your closets. Who are you? Man up by signing below.

The guy isn't going to have a long NBA career, and I'm going to rub your faces in it somewhere down the road. He's a slow chucker with no NBA skills. Sorry.

There it is.

Wow, you're a vacuous pong mongler. What part of his game won't translate? You're beyond special ed if you think he won't be at least a role player in the NBA.

Never you fret, Archie, he'll be in ward ball with you shortly. You two will relive the glory days forever, remixing weekly a nagging complaint of what should have been if Coach had just given him a chance. You'll feel extra special pretending you too were a 2011 BYU grad, holing up a dirty little secret that you were fodder from the training camp up the hill.

Your secret is safe with me though, Archie. I'll always stick with my fellow UVUers, even if they're embarrassed of their own colors.

Short unathletic shooting guards are always successful in the NBA. Why I can't even begin to put a list together of 6'2" shooting guards with low to moderate athletic ability that have led teams to championships, like....uh....let's see. Um. Well there have been a lot!

Haha, I agree with this thread. I am a big of a Coug Homer as anyone, but Jimmer does nothing for me. I actually really dislike watching him play. He'll be a wardball all-star for sure though. That up n' under he's got is $$$.

Nice thread dude.

I might even start a thread about this thread, asking people who think this thread will be remembered in a week to post so I can rub it in their face when it's forgotten.

Genius.

Loof for it, I expect you to post.

I'm giving a MOAH ribbon at the end of this. You're RARE over-affectionate tantrum currently has you in the lead Spazz. I look forward to your thread, regardless.

Thank you, I also believe I am RARE.
I appreciate the thought on the ribbon, you should just award it to me now and get it over with.
I, of course, would have to reject it because it's against my religion.

Thanks though

Love, Spazz

p.s. I lied about the other thread, if I cared enough to start another thread it would have to involve hate/love of Boozer and/or C.J. in some form.

Maybe it's been in another thread, but I'm a little pissed about that stupid blogger who said Jimmer was the greatest missionary in the world. What a slap to those who left the comforts of home, rode their bikes/walked thousands of miles and knocked on thousands of doors in all sorts of weather. That aside, I think Jimmer is an awesome baller for college, but count me among those who don't think it will translate to the NBA (if there still is one after the lockout). Is he going to play 1 or 2 in the league? I don't think he has the skills to play 1 (imagine him going against a Derrick Rose) and he's not big enough to play 2. He may be someone who comes off the bench and hits a few 3's, but that would be all I would expect.

That's about what I am expecting from him as well. The guy who sits at the end of the bench for 58 minutes and gets put in with the game on the line and trailing or leading by just a few.

Have any of you given Jimmer the benefit of the doubt that he really is that good? No one knows how well he will do in the NBA. He might suck and he might be great. Frankly, we don't know.

I love watching him play in college, though I'm definitely not a homer in regards to his NBA ability. I don't think he has anything to offer inside of 20 feet in the NBA. Or on defense. And since, as David Thorpe talks about often, nobody in the NBA is going to allow him to play even close to the style he is allowed at BYU, I just don't see much there.

Tony Parker lead the NBA in scoring in the paint. Anything can happen, eh?

I honestly think Jimmer is going to have huge problems even getting in the lane. His ball moves are okay, but nothing NBA guys aren't used to. Parker is/(was? I haven't seen him in awhile actually) a jet and has a mean floater. Jimmer is never going to be a jet, but if he could add that floater....that would be nice.

Parker is insanely athletic and has incredible ball-handling skills.

For a more apt comparison, has JJ Reddick lead the NBA in points in the paint?

Tony Parker is not "insanely athletic". He's a great player, but I don't think anyone who watches him play thinks he's "insanely athletic" besides maybe you. I'm tired of hearing the JJ Reddick comparison with Jimmer. Jimmer is very capable of running the point in the NBA, Reddick isn't. I'm not saying Jimmer is going to dominate in the NBA, but I think it's foolish to say he's gonna suck or not have a chance. He's not Lee Cummard.

Is Glen Davis "insanely athletic" too?

I guess you don't understand what athletic is, but that's ok. Many people mistakenly think that the full extent of being "athletic" means you have to be over 6'5" and be able to jump over the backboard. That is wrong, but you are entitled to be wrong all you want. Was Stockton athletic? Is Ginobli? It is generally a scale and measurable by far more than standing reach and verticle jump.

That said, then drop the "insanely" qualifier that you seem to be stuck on and Parker is still in another league of athleticism than Jimmer.

You also are a true Jimmer homer if you think he is closer to Parker than Reddick.

I compare Jimmer to Jimmer. I don't think he's a lot like Parker. Jimmer actually has a jump shot. :D Don't tell me I don't understand what athletic means when you claim Tony Parker is "insanely athletic". The basketball world knows he's not "insanely athletic". He's not.

In a Jimmer thread it sure looks like a comparison to me in that top post. If you were just bringing it up randomly and not connected to this thread then I apologize.

As for the bold...link? Otherwise it is your opinion, nothing more. Qualifying it with a vague unverifiable claim adds no further weight to the argument. You think he is a lump of clay, I think he is pretty damn athletic. I have watched him plenty, and imo he is more athletic than most PG in this league.

I'm just making a point that Jimmer has more game than on outside shot. He's got a plethora of moves and can use both hands for finishing close to the hoop. The Parker comment was made to make a point. How many people thought Parker would do as well as he has in the paint in the NBA? I'm guessing not many.

Tony Parker is athletic, but he's not "insanely athletic". I don't need to provide a link because it's common sense. He's an athletic point guard with a high skill set. He's just not "insanely athletic".

I do? When did I say that? I think he's a great point guard. He's just not "insanely athletic".

I don't know about that. I think he has a better understanding of the game and a higher skill set than most PG's in the league. I don't think he's that much more athletic than "most" PGs in the league.
