Fredette homer admittance thread

That said, then drop the "insanely" qualifier that you seem to be stuck on and Parker is still in another league of athleticism than Jimmer.

You also are a true Jimmer homer if you think he is closer to Parker than Reddick.

Tony Parker is athletic, but he's not "insanely athletic". I don't need to provide a link because it's common sense. He's an athletic point guard with a high skill set. He's just not "insanely athletic".

I removed the "insane" qualifier in a previous post. Jimmer is still not in Parker's league even with that removed.

You think he is a lump of clay, I think he is pretty damn athletic.

I do? When did I say that? I think he's a great point guard. He's just not "insanely athletic".

Look up hyperbole.

I just think, even taking the fact that Parker went late in the draft, that Parker is not a true comparison to Jimmer. I have serious doubts that Jimmer will turn into a Parker-level player. He is not a pass-first point, he doesn't have near Parker's level of athleticism (drop the "insane" part, jeez), and he doesn't have the handle of a point.

To me he seems to be more similar to a JJ Reddick with more of a scorers mentality. Would be great if he had the size or athleticism to do something with it. But I think he is definitely not on the level to garner the attention he has had.

[yay I got the multi-quote thing right for once =]

Parker is extremely athletic.

Gordon Hayward would have swamped Jimmer in ppg if placed in Jimmer's situation. Scorers can rack up a lot of points when given the green light to hoist up any and every shot they choose. The guy backs out to nearly the half line, waits for a high screen that he generally comes off of very poorly, and takes whatever shot he can create. It doesn't take a genius to see circumstances far outweigh skill here.

I'd like to see someone from Jazzfanz sink as many shots as him then tell me that he only can score because he gets "the green light."

It's very clear you haven't watched Jimmer play, guy. Admit it.

Sorry McKell, I'm going to have to agree with Frank. He's a great shooter, no doubt, but he's a horrid team player and is one of the most selfish guards I've ever seen. I can't stand watching him play.

i personally like how he never passes and gets utterly blown out and humiliated by perennial ncaa powerhouse, new mexico. surely a hall of fame career in the works

james fredette is an insult to utah and humanity at large. i wish nothing but personal and professional failure on him for somehow convincing the nation that utah could mold something of importance before ******** all over the court against new mexico and i resent dave rose, deeply, deeply, DEEPLY resent him for not resigning after that loss

I am so sick of this line in regards to anyone somebody doesn't like.
If somebody else likes their game, then they are a homer.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that is the "stupidest" argument, or defense of a point that there ever was.
In this particular instance if Archie sees something in Jimmer or his game that he thinks will translate into the NBA so what. That does not make him a "homer".
Just agree to disagree, or stick to your argument, but I am sick of the stupid homer crap.

There, I said it.
My venting session is over.

On a side note, I personally think Homer wrote some of the best literature out there, and Homer is also one of the funniest cartoon characters in existence.

This is my take on "The Jimmer"'s NBA potential.
C.J. watched him and said he could play in the NBA, so this discussion should be over.

Jimmer is consistently being guarded by "more athletic" 6-7 to 6-8 defenders every night, and they usually mix it up to give the defenders some rest. When he has a bad night he only scores 23, with 5 boards and 5 assists and a steal. He is a bit of a ball hog, but wasn't almost every NBA player before the NBA? He has the ability to be a fine PG in the league. He averages 4 assists per game, and many good PG's averaged that or less in college. Jimmer is relentless, has the drive to succeed at any level, and constantly works on improving his game. He will be fine in the NBA. I don't think he will be an all-star, and may be a 6th man like Terry, but on a bad team or in the right system he could start.
I honestly think he would be best used with Phoenix or New York.

Archie, you are not totally alone here even if I don't have the exact same opinion of Jimmer's NBA potential as you do.
He is not as fast as a Parker, which is Parker's main strength and helps him do what he does.
He is a Boozer defensively, in that he does not put effort into it, and hardly ever pushes through screens.
I did see him put more effort into defense against Utah in the last game and he was consistently getting a hand up and affecting shots, which was good to see.

If you notice it was a qualified statement, meaning there was another part after "homer" modifying what homer means in this instance. I think you are a true Jimmer homer if you think he is closer to parker than to Reddick. This means that you are blinded by your LOVE of his game enough to compare him to a far superior player rather than a player that he is more likely to emulate. After further discussion with Archie on the subject I can see that was not his argument, but it appeared that way to begin with.

I am sure Jimmer might be a NBA caliber talent. He obviously has skills that would probably translate well. But if you convince yourself he is the next Parker in the making you are being unrealistic about that players potential, just like the people on the old board that insisted on claiming CJ would be an all-star next year...oh wait, then next year...hang on, he just needs another year.

Being a Homer = having unrealistic expectations of a players potential and sticking to that belief despite any evidence/argument presented to the contrary.

As for your other point I agree, Homer is a hilarious cartoon character, but I don't remember Homer Simpson writing anything of great import.

You're missing the entire point of my thread. I'm not asking for argument or reason. I'm asking for homers to admit it here and now--kind of a macho chest bumping session or something. If you detest this thread so much, and want an insightful discussion regarding Jimmer's talents or lack thereof, then self medicate by quitting reading this thread and starting your own. It's a pretty simple fix, Spazz. There's no reason to piss on my pleasure just because you don't like the activity involved. Go do your own damn thing. I'm not here to step on your toes so why get so defensive over a simple question?

I understand, and I was taking my annoyance with the "homer" comments out on your comment. I don't think just because somebody has a different opinion that it makes them a homer. I think it means they have a different opinion.
Who are you to say somebody's opinion is "unrealistic"... and I say that to anyone who says that, not just you. I also don't buy into most people's take that if you downplay somebody's talent or ability, it means you are a fair and objective.

I would compare Jimmer to Parker more than I would to Redick because Jimmer handles the ball as a PG. He drives into the lane often like Parker does. He is more the size of Parker than the size of Redick. That is why the comparison to Parker makes more sense to me. Style of play, and size over shooting ability and whiteness.

That was just a vent session on homerisms, I think Jimmer will do better than it sounds like others here think he will in the NBA, but I don't disagree with some of what has been said.

"Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week and don't forget to tip your waitress."

Because if there is anybody in the league that knows scoring (or chucking) it would be Mr. Miles.

While I think that Jimmer could land himself a 10 year NBA career just off of shooting ability alone, I can't help but laugh when people say he could pull off playing PG in the NBA. Alot of the BYU fans I work with like to use the Steph Curry example as "exhibit A" in regards to Jimmer transitioning to the PG spot in the NBA. Just my opinion, but I don't think Jimmer is anywhere near the athlete that Curry is (I also think it's generous saying that Jimmer is 6'2"). Jimmer would get swallowed whole each and every time he tried to push the ball into the lane against NBA defenders. For the record, even if Jimmer washes out in the NBA, I don't think that BYU fans should be too bummed out about that. While he was at your school, he was the best you've ever had and provided you with some good memories. It's like Ute fans and Alex Smith. Would I have liked for him to enter a better situation than the 49ers debacle? Absolutely, but the bottom line is that it hasn't worked out for Alex in the NFL so far. However, I still enjoyed his time here at Utah- and always will.

My official guess on Jimmer's NBA career? I'm thinking around the line of Craig Hodges (some of you will remember him). I could see Jimmer hitting some timely 3-pointers for a team, and maybe winning a couple of 3-point shootouts during All-Star weekend before quietly fading away.

I was just taking the tone of the first post and running with it. Sorry it didn't fall in with your grand scheme. Yes I should have let you have your fun, but I couldn't resist.
Yes, I think it was lame to start name calling in your first post before you even got things going. Look at the second post by Archie, he didn't exactly embrace you either.
I think you got what you secretly wanted.

I'm glad you got my attempt at a joke.
Maybe Jimmer will be a shorter, less athletic (white) version of Chucker.

What do you have against a good testosterone battle? There's nothing wrong with homers and haters bashing each other, unless you're the flowers or hippie type I guess. Considering it name calling means you're overly sensitive. You're also being more defensive than is healthy, and need to realize it's not all about you and your butthurt feelings. Sports fans are going to battle no matter how bent out of shape it makes you. Embrace it before you turn mad. As a Jazz fan, may I suggest a little therapy visit to a Lakers forum. Go easy at first. Eventually, you'll feel good telling them what you think of their garbage organization.

Archie plays a character on here and predictably stepped into his role here. Tis a little different with him than most.

Can we please finally get back to the good battle now that you've gotten your venting out of the way at everyone's expense?
