Free Agent Rumors Thread

Is he going to defend with the top of his head? Aren't reach/wingspan better measures for wing defenders?

I get this arguement but why are no other teams putting 6 foot 5 guys at starting sf if they have long wingspans/standing reach?
I do think height plays a part too.
Oladipo has really long arms (iirc) wonder why he doesnt play sf

Precedent? Can you name a team that received good players/picks in a sign-and-trade from a team with the cap space to sign the player without dumping salary?

I believe Joe Johnson from Phx to Atlanta had a few first rounders involved and Boris Diaw. I think most teams have just matched, but i believe Minny was willing to send assets to Portland to get them to not match, but Portland just matched anyway.

Marc Stein a few minutes ago:

Whoops... So G-time's agent did a good job. Is 4/65 that much more damaging than 4/52? I see the Jazz matching this and Jazzfanz melting.

Why aren't more people pissed at Hayward for signing a MAX deal instead of negotiating with Utah? Sorry but Hayward doesn't want to be in Utah. He wants to be closer to Indy. Yet he gets very little criticism? What he gets is the majority of people pining for him to stay.

Seriously? You want to find fault with a guy for accepting an offer that's probably about $15 million more (total) than the Jazz's offer?

I don't want Hayward taking up all the cap space. Kanter and Burks need to be resigned. I don't fault Hayward for going after more money. but I don't want to pay him.

Yes. If I'm the Jazz I'd probably match 4/52, but there's no way I'd match 4/65.

This.

There's no way that the Jazz should match this.

Let Cleveland be stupid with their own money. Cleveland is proving why they're a joke. I just hope that Gail doesn't fall for this because he's white and looks like the long lost child she never had.

The true sign of this being a bad deal is that even Cavs fans aren't excited over this.

Furthermore, I'd rather shell out big money for Burks. I think he has more star potential than Hayward. Don't screw over our franchise because if you give him the max then he becomes immovable, just like AK.

I think we match because he is the best asset we can get for the money. This year doesn't really matter on the deal (because we aren't likely to find a better FA and don't see a good salary dump right now), so it is a 3/50 is deal for me. Its an overpay, but it is moveable if we need to pay others. I'm not sold that we will need to pony up a lot for Kanter, because I am not convinced he is good at basketball yet. We can carry Overpriced Hayward, Favors, and still resign Alec. The rest of our guys won't need to get paid until after Hayward's deal runs out.

Unless you think we are getting a really good free agent to sign here next year then you match... I'm not happy about it but I think it is the best course of action for where we are at.

Good find. Not sure if Atlanta had the $$ to sign Joe Johnson without a sign-and-trade, and Diaw may have also requested a trade (I think Zach Lowe wrote an article about Diaw recently...should probably check), but still the two 1st round picks turned into Rajon Rondo and Robin Lopez.

This is the dumbest post I've ever read on this board.

He's the "best asset" we can get for the money? Huh?

You don't hamstring your franchise, give max money to a nonmax nonleader player, because you feel like he's the best asset this summer. Which is debatable, since Parsons and Stephenson, and Ariza are still available. What about future summers? There's no rule that we must sign a player to the max this summer.

There's absolutely NO reason to match this offer. Zip, zero, nada. No reason.

Even cavs fans can't believe this is happening.

I lazy googled it.. Phoenix didn't take back salary so Atlanta would have had to be under the cap. In other news Boris Diaw used to be skinny.... skinny Boris Diaw would be scary. Link to skinny diaw below

How so?

Are there lots of teams looking for overpaid and underproducing players?

Rudy Gay got traded twice with an unmoveable contract. Hayward is a player that fits on almost any team... Gay is an isolation player. In a year you could trade him for expirings if we need flexibility.
