If the jazz end up drafting outside the top 3 and lose Hayward to free agency, then we will have an excellent chance at getting Parker next year. Sorry, but Smart and Exum aren't saviors. They're nice role players to replace Burks or Jefferson, not Hayward and certainly not to fix this mess.

Barnes went from a projected #2 pick behind Irving in 2011 to #7 pick in 2012.


You're right, he didn't improve his draft stock very much at all.
 
I don't agree that staying in college means that you're not a competitor. The money is good, but for some guys it's just nice to be a kid. College can be a great environment. I have no problem with a guy staying in school if they don't think they're ready. Too many players flame out after their first contract. I'd like to KNOW that I'm ready and will only get better as a pro before leaving.

Not questioning PKM's source here. But similar rumors swirled around Kevin Durant when he was at Texas.

I think the system as-is forces you out if you're any good. There are some exceptions (Marcus Smart), and not saying it would be a bad move on Jabari's part, but I would be very surprised by this.

Kid's say things, well meaning, all the time.. only reason this made a new thread is this is a direct family member that was ADAMANT.. and yet I still question the outcome.

I practically want to bash his skull in for being selfish and living his own life. This country is all about soldiers and sacrifices, not puss hoppers staying won year more.

I think tanking is an entirely sensible strategy when your odds of hitting on a primary offensive (or defensive) player are better than usual (like this year) and/or if you do it for just one year. This is the year. If the Jazz blow this chance, they shouldn't try again. That's where a team gets on the path of a perennial bottom-feeder.

This is true in our case. We have the perfect scenario working for us. All we need to do is do it for 1 year. But not doing it might turn out to be a mistake. Looking back 10 years from now this year could look pretty pivotal in how the franchise is shaped.
