Gal Mekel - Israeli PG

Watched the second half of the game. Mekel was huge in the 4th. Real clutch. Had at least two amazing p&r moves at the final minutes. He also was voted to be this year's MVP.

Jazz should just sign him to a 2-yr deal with a partial guarantee on year 2. We'll need roster fillers this season. Even if the Jazz draft a PG (or two), they need to carry three on the roster.
 
In his interview on the Big Show today, Randy Rigby said Dennis has been overseas this week taking some looks at some international players. Could Gal be one of them? Tomic? Maybe he liked Saric and is trying to convince him to stay in the draft?

I can't find any recent tape or impressive stats on Mekel. Can those in the know please shed some light?
 
If the Jazz do end up signing a Jewish player, how obnoxious of a homer am I allowed to become?

Hi Guys.

I'm new here, i'm 30 y.o from Israel, and a Jazz fan since mid 90's .
I usually don't write posts and in reading only mode, but i wanted to post the link for the Israely championship game.

Mekel playes For Haifa in Green uniform, he is number 9.

he was great at second half, you can watch from 1:45.

There are some great penetration and p'n'roll moves in money time.

What you can't see in this video is his great defence.

Really talented player that works very hard in order to improve.

Gal played his US college ball here at WSU. He's a good kid (obviously improved since that time), but wasn't real coachable at the time. Hopefully he's improved in that regard as well.

I found another video that shows Mekel qualities as PG. (not a lot of baskets in this one)

The game tooke place last month, and was crucial to Mekel's team (Green uniform) , which won they game at the end.

He scored 18 Pts and dished 13 Assists.

0:25 easy basket on transition , and after that an assist after penetration.

1:31 Greata and smart front defence on the opposit PF in the paint. Again,Mekel has great upper body strength and he is tough as nails.

Following that, assist to a three made by the SF who comes as a trailer.

2:08 An assist to a corner three.

3:10 Another assist to an easy three.

3:17 My faborite one. An assist after the high Pick'n'roll with his left hand (he is right handed) to an open three.

I heard just the same report.

But today reports are saying that another strong spanish team - Caja Laboral (where Nocioni,Spliter and Prigioni came from) are after him. I guess they will offer bigger money than any NBA team,
and maybe he will decide to spend another year in Europe (He never played Euroleague before, and this team will participate in Euroleague netx year ).

Anyway, he has landed on the US and is already working with famous personal trainer (I don't remember the name) , before visiting the mentioned team above
 
Gal participated in Milwaukee's FA mini camp. Seems they are impressed.
