Game #1: Jazz vs Mavericks, 10/31/12 - 7:00 PM MST - Root Sports, 1280 AM/97.5 FM

Defense in the third quarter turned this game around. And the biggest change was from AJ. He had two or three sequences where he stepped out on pick and roll and harassed Collison long enough for an effective stop. I think he even had two tips where we turned his defensive pressure into fast breaks to get us back to square early in the period. If Al can play like that some of the time, maybe he can smell the blood and play defense on a consistent basis. If so, watch out...we will be a very solid playoff team -- 3-4 seed. Let's hope that the young guns rub off on him and he plays with defensive intensity night and night out.

Thought that Kanter played great, but ran out of steam in the second half. I don't think that the preseason outburst was an illusion, he is looking like a legit 3rd pick, rather than some bum who got lucky in a weak draft and got picked up higher than warranted. All I can say after tonight is Pass The Koolaid.

I'm with the others who are fuming over Kanter and Favors seeing limited minnies and Alex Burke getting refuse minutes? What dross. Corbin, a true master of foresight. This is the nincompoop we extended?

I don't hate Foye. He belongs on the court. Tinsley is the one that I hate. He is slow, turns the ball over, doesn't play defense and can't shoot. Why is he playing again?

Because he's the best passer/orchestrator of the offense on the team.

Right, Foye did play solid ball the second half. But when Foye is playing for another team next year and we're still trying to figure out what Burks is all about, the organization will have no one to blame but themselves.

OMG This.

The williams looked damn good and we are finally lighting up our threes, however I was really really disappointed to not see Burks on the floor. FREEEEEEEEEEEEE BURKS

After watching the game I expected this thread to be littered with white gooey stuff and all I see is a bunch of bitching? What's up with that? I'm super pumped right now!

There's nothing more enjoyable that watching that jackass Cuban and his theatrics from the stands. He must have made the traveling signal a half dozen times.

Wish Burks would have hit one FT. He was the only one who didn't score a point.

Don't see why anyone is bitching. The Jazz played an exceptional 2nd half. I'm ridiculously excited at how promising their fast breaks, 3 point shooting, and defense can be this season.

And the two Williams' will prove to be exceptional pickups this year.

The Super team Lakers going 0-2 to start the season might just be more enjoyable than the Cuban theatrics.

I enjoyed watching the game. I was happy with the defensive effort in the second half, although you could argue that the Mavs being tired factored into things. The Jazz rebounded the ball extremely well. I know everyone's annoyed (or in the case of a few people, beyond annoyed) about Burks not getting in until the end, and I am as well. But in Corbin's defense, Foye played well. Anyway, here's to an 82-0 season.

I thought Jefferson's minutes and play were a sign of good things this season. I think 29 (prefer 20-25 but...) was a decent number I thought 11 shot attempts was a great number(wish he hit a better number but I think he will most games), I 4-4 free throws was an improvement for him. He looked like he tried to create contact to get to the FT line. I though he had 1 great inside pass to Caroll and thought he was looking for the pass more. I also thought his defense in the second half was good enough for this team. He played the pick and roll decent. I though he was more aggressive getting boards especially on offensive rebounds.

He was not perfect but I thought he showed improvement and fit in with this team better. If he played like this and got his shooting percentage above .500 averaging 15 point and 10 + rebounds than we are a much better team this year.

We will see what happens when we are on the road and points are hard to come by if we go back to the stale offense where we pass into Jefferson and the ball never comes out every possession. I hope he really is committed to better defense and better passing.

I am going to rep you for this when I can tomorrow. Well said imo.

I hear you. The one thing I've gathered about how Corbin is running things is about how players have to earn their minutes, I think Foye earned his tonight, and I don't think Burks got the chance to earn his in this game. So I don't fault Corbin for playing Foye the amount he did given his philosophy on dividing up minutes. I think there were opportunities for Burks to get in the game though, at the expense of Tinsley and Carroll rather than Foye, playing Hayward at the three and Burks at the 2 for example, I don't think Hayward got enough burn either tbh.

Generally rookies and 2nd year players aren't going to be as good as seasoned veterans, so if that's Corbin's philosophy, its garbage, and the Jazz should trade all future draft picks for seasoned journeyman.
