What's new

Game #1: Jazz vs Mavericks, 10/31/12 - 7:00 PM MST - Root Sports, 1280 AM/97.5 FM

Lol @ Cuban going crazy with 2 mins left in the third after Kanter traveled (but it's nothing worse than what I've seen Dirk get away with).

This team plays fast. Marvin Williams is a huge upgrade. An athletic big win who can shoot? Maybe the Lakers should have tried to get him instead of Howard?

Mo is 100x better than Harris.

We finally have shooters.

The good and bad news? Favors looks like Tyson Chandler. Good? Because I don't think we've had a defensive anchor like him since Eaton. Tyson Chandler defensively is a huge asset. Bad? Because he didn't show any improvement on the offensive end. He's like Chandler. No moves or range. Even Kanter has shown some improvement. Favors? Dude still doesn't know how to back people down (like when he was being played by marion) or to shoot. Outside of a drive and dish dunk/putback, he's almost worthless offensively.

Finally got to watch the game.

Refs are awful. Even though they were in our favor, they were still wildly inconsistent. It was getting to the point where I was even getting upset for Mavs fans.

Oh, and Jamaal starting over Alec Burks is ****ing disgusting.

Other than that, I have no other complaints.

If I have to complain about the game as a fellow jazzfan, I really hated the Larry Bird guy. Worst Halloween costume ever.

Sucks that Burks didn't get playing time, but Carroll and Foye played really well. Carroll brings defense and Foye brings shooting. I hope we eventually just scrap the backup PG and let Foye do that and play Foye/Burks.

I love the visible signs of how comfortable these new guys are here.

Mo Williams showed more passion tonight than Harris did in his season and a half in Utah. I absolutely love him.

He brought good shooting last night - but historically he's not a good shooter coming off the bench. The first night he goes 2-8 and The Jazz lose while Burks rides the pine - watch out.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just woke up and realized that it wasn't a dream..

To freaking minutes for burks!!!

Well, he`s not known for his consistency. That`s why Corbin need to be root and branch about sitting him when he`s having a bad night.

Well, he`s not known with his consistency. That`s why Corbin needs to be radical about sitting him when he`s having a bad night.

I would like to know the reasoning behind Burks' lack of minutes. Attitude? Doesn't go hard in practice? Low bbIQ?

He always seems to go hard and his attitude has seemed like that of a winner. So if it was one of those three I'd say IQ.

I hope Burks sees this as Corbin challenging him. You want on that court? Prove it.

Yeah, I have a little less problems with player's playing time than most do. I have seen it at UK for many years. Fans screaming for so and so to get more burn, but they don't see the player getting killed in practice, not going hard, etc.

Having said that, I'd still love to know the reasoning. I agree and suspect it's just Alec coming alone a little more slowly in understanding the team's plays, where to be on the court, etc.

Shout out to Murph for getting his first 2 points as a professional basketball player, on a pretty nice looking ball fake layup I might add.
It does suck Burks didn't get some more time (at the expense of Carroll's & Tinsley's min) but he has to start hitting his FT's. Last year he was okay and so far in preseason and now first game of the season he has been under 50%, his first FT was lucky it didn't crack the glass and take out a little kid in the stands it was so bad.

Every player had his good moments and bad, Mo got a bit careless with the ball a few times, Millsap's effort was always there but his shots at times just looked bad and well like I said every player on the team had these moments of both good and bad.

That third Qtr sure was fun to watch though wasn't it.

Jefferson, Millsap and Carroll with more than enough minutes. Favors, Kanter and Burks with not enough minutes or a DNP. I don't care about the win; Corbin is pissing off the Jazz' players of the future. This is a $%^#@!& disgrace!
I thought winning was the most important part. You starting to get dirty in your old age.
AJ played only 29 minutes - which is about what he should be getting per game. No excuse for not bringing it the whole game.
Yes 29 minutes is good, but had the game been close, Al probably gets 32 to 35 minutes though.
We humiliated the Mavs on the boards.

I can't believe we got Marvin Williams for Harris.

We're a very deep team - this is going to be the most fun Jazz season since the late-1990s.
Couldn't agree more. Marv seems to be taylor made for this team

After watching the game I expected this thread to be littered with white gooey stuff and all I see is a bunch of bitching? What's up with that? I'm super pumped right now!
This is why Malone always calls us the best smartest fans in the NBA. We have taken on the Sloan's persona. Even when the jazz blew someone out. Sloan always managed to make it look like the jazz were the worst team in the league. That's what's going on here.

Here is a thought for everyone that thinks myself and anyone that is complaining about the lack of minutes that Burks got are out of control.

When I listen to those that played for all time great coaches in any sport there seems to be one thing in common. The coach never stops coaching. No matter where they are at in the game the coach wants every player to be playing their best.

IMO, Corbin gave up on Burks last night. It was easier and more comfortable to put Tinsley in there so that he didn't have to coach as much. Burks is a better player, period. Burks gives the Jazz a better chance to win, period. It was a lazy and stupid coaching move to let Burks sit on the bench until garbage time.

One other thought. Our team is not lost on the offensive side of the ball if Jefferson is not in the game.

All the Al homers pointed to that fact as the reason that he must stick around and last night proved to me that we now have capable scorers that can win us games and that the talent we have sitting on the bench can be used more and more without the worry of a giant drop off in offensive production.
