Game 1: Jazz vs Spurs (July 17th)

I think the starting lineup will be what it was at the end of last season. And I think that's the best one.
I agree

I think we all have to remember that this is Summer league. Burke is a floor general. He plays better when he knows where other players on the court are going to be. He can't develop that chemistry with other players in this setting. I think we all agree he shoots too much, and I hope he tries to be more of a distributor this year, but I'm gonna reserve judgement for him until the season gets going.

Hood had a great summer league. I hope it translates to the regular season, but remember that Ian Clark was the MVP last year. I'm glad to see that Hood is more than a 3 point shooter. He has the perfect game for a wing, and Jazz are lucky to have gotten him when they did.

Exum is going to take some time. He is an 18 year old kid playing against mostly 23-25 year old guys that played 4 years of college and possibly NBA DL and some summer league. He has the physical skills, but the rest will take some time and we have to be patient. It might take 2-3 years before he's ready to start in the NBA. Hopefully its faster.

Gobert Has some great attributes and will be a great C off the bench. He's still a project, and will have to work to stay out of foul trouble in the NBA. Hope he can get around 12 minutes per game this year. Would be nice if he got more, but thats where I'd put the over/under right now.

I agree, for the most part.

To start the season, I think that Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks and Burke will probably be the best starting lineup.

I can see Gobert and Exum both make a strong push to become starters before the end of the season depending on how Kanter, Burks and Burke perform as starters. Exum needs to work on his shooting and get into NBA shape. He's going to struggle at the end of the year if he starts out playing too much at the beginning. My hope is that he plays off the bench behind Alec and Trey to begin with, gets into game shape and looks awesome by the All-Star break. This would allow him to start slow and finish strong. That would be ideal for him. Hood and Gobert likely get a pretty good run off the bench. Rudy is going to turn some heads this year. The guy is talented and driven. I think that he'll become a difference maker sooner as opposed to later.

Was it just me or was Trey freezing out Exum a bit? I didn't see a pass to him, besides the one where he wasn't even looking, in the second half.

I didn't see the game, so I don't know if that's the case or not. . . but I fully expect Quin Snyder to hold guys accountable for their mistakes and shortcomings. If Trey isn't making the correct decisions (for whatever reason) then he's going to be looking up at Exum from the depth chart. I don't see guys being able to mess around for a coach like this. Get with the system, play hard, play defense and play smart. If you can't do that, then get the hell out of the way for someone who can.

So what I learned from this thread....

Before the game ended up looking like a blowout, the Jazz and Spurs were tied at 69.

69 elicits some bizarre responses here.

The P.... Word is not moderated.

Trey Burke will be a good NBA player because he is quicker and stronger and that is why he shot 5-18, 1-6 from three, and had a 1 to 1 ATO.

It is Exums fault the Jazz lost because his conditioning sucks.

Exum said after the game that he's more comfortable with the ball, but faults himself for not getting more involved.

Exum's body language is weird. He almost seemed out of it this game. I think he is already getting upset having to share the ball with Trey.

I think he may be getting upset with never receiving the ball from Trey.

I think it may be best. Then, sub Hood out at the six minute mark and bring in Exum, and slide Hayward to the 3. Burke and Exum can play together for the rest of the 1st quarter, and then Burke takes a seat for the first seven minutes of the 2nd, during which Exum is the lead guard.

And Burks can wave his towel from the bench????

Alec Burks >>> Trey Burke

By the end of this year, I see Favors, Hayward, Burks and Exum as four of the starters. I'm just not sure yet if I'd rather have Gobert or Kanter starting with Favors. I like both of them for different reasons. I think that Enes has more upside and is more versatile positionally. One of those two, plus Hood and Burke off the bench is pretty nice depth IMO.

I hope that's not even a conversation someone would have. I feel a little awkward pretending Burke is better then he actually is...

It's funny that you mention that. I just watched Exum's post-game interview here: https://on.nba.com/1qjjmA0 and he mentioned that he likes having the ball in his hands more. I don't know if that was a swipe at Trey specifically, but I get the sense he wasn't happy with not being the primary ball handler more often.

It worse than that, someone counted 7 straight possessions where Exum never touched the ball.

Another interesting note was I could have sworn that Quin seemed rather sure of Exum and Burke being able to share the backcourt in recent interviews, and today he said he thinks they can. I may have confirmation bias, but he does seem a little less sure of their ability to co-exist on the court.

It will be a travesty if trey, exum, or hood start over burks.

Burks is much better than all of them
