Game #26: Spurs @ Jazz

Kanter once again another game where he's a complete liability that only hurts his team rather than helps.

Other than tinsley or JL3, is there another player with a worse +-?

He's a #3 pick who sucks! I honestly would like to see Gobert get some burn over kanter.

I really do think that the only way kanter makes this league is if he is placed on a crappy team and is allowed to chuck away and never play defense. Much like Big Al has done for his entire career. Serial losers like minny, Milawakee, Charlotte, Toronto, Detroit, and New York would be ideal destinations for him.

But what I don't get is that Kanter looked really good at some point last season. I don't know what's wrong with him. :(

Kanter, like Big Al before him, has absolutely no concept of team basketball.

Against crappy players in reserve time, he can put up a few nice stats. But as soon as defenses focus on him or when he has to play against starters, he completely falls apart. Kanter might have benefitted a lot had he been able to play at Kentucky for a few years.

He still has no idea how to pass the rock. 3 guys collapse? Nah, I don't feel like passing. I'll just chuck up an airball instead.

I was listening to very interesting Bruce Bowen interview and what struck me was when he said that Calipari and Kentucky does not teach kids fundamentals so he does not value Kentucky players as much as players from other, better programs. I guess PKM will disagree and I will not argue as I am not a expert on NCAA at all. But that's what B.Bowen said.

lol @ tiny game thread

This season is so exciting! The Jazz win when they win and they win when they lose

That is pretty accurate. Calipari recruits great 1v1 players that can win those matchups most night in college ball. He is an average coach that is a ridiculously good recruiter.

Calipari recruits a lot of players that have more raw athletic ability than skills. It's not a result of his coaching. Pretty foolish statement. Bruce is just jealous of many of Cal's players natural athletic ability. He has these guys for a year. Nobody is going to be able to 'coach' a relatively poor shooter to become Jeff Hornaceck in a single college basketball season, nor will anyone be able to 'coach' a poor ball-handler to become Tony Parker overnight.

I think the point Bruce is trying to make is that he thinks NBA management values potential too much compared to players with skills. In which case, he should probably say that instead of what he did say.

Cal recruits the best players in the nation, period. Don't talk around that point.

I wonder how far they'll go in the NIT this year.

No, he doesn't. Yes, he usually gets the highest rated high school seniors, this does not mean the best players. Sometimes it does, oftentimes it doesn't.

I would say that Kentucky has the reputation of teaching NBA defensive principles. Traditionally they haven't run normal NBA sets, so they might be behind offensively.

On the game we lost but I was encouraged because Burke, Burks, Favors and Hayward played smarter in the 2nd half. The Spurs play smart defense and cheat off of people. We were ready with the right counters in the 2nd half. Too bad we were down 15 at the half.

At the time of recruitment, BEST PROSPECT equals BEST PLAYER. let's not over-complicate things. UK is into their second straight year of under-performing.

Right, and typically the players @ Kentucky are much better at defense than offense. Oftentimes its is hard for them to space the floor, so it's tough to run NBA sets.

If best prospect was best player, they would say best player instead of best prospect. Do you know what prospect means?

'a person regarded as likely to succeed or as a potential customer, client, etc.'

Kanter missed easy shots but he created them which was a pleasant showing. Dat backboard tho. Use it dammit.

Something has to be done abou Hayward shooting long twos when he's in situations to move back 8 inches.

Do you know that the persons asked to be part of a team are BOTH players and prospects? Weird, eh? Cal gets the BEST RECRUITS.

BEST RECRUITS = BEST PLAYER/PROSPECT.

You can go on quoting the dictionary if you want.

Word

Kanter seems really uncomfortable taking shots while moving

The long two had got to be the most frustrating shot. Someone should slap him every time he takes a long two with more than five seconds left on the shot clock.

I'm not sure he realizes that basketball teams usually just give this shot to most players

It would be fun to have the Jazz try to run the SA offense: have trey and favors play the two-man game ala Parker and Duncan, with hay, rj, and marv parked out at the 3 point line. It has worked great for pops and we have personel now that might be able to do it effectively.
