Game 3: The Phoenix: Philadelphia 76ers @ Utah Jazz (12/30/11, 7pm MST)

Just because it always needs to be said: We would be SO SO much better if we put Bell out to pasture. The weird thing about Bell is on any other team he would just get pushed to the bench. But we're actually fighting against Bell's history in Utah more than his perceived benefit. Ty showed some balls tonight benching Harris early when his defense on Jrue was horrible in the 1st quarter.

Will he finally pull the trigger on Bell? Honestly, my opinion of Ty has a lot to do with when he actually realizes Bell is killing us. The longer this goes on, the less I will think Ty really wants to win.

I think it's more we are fighting the preconceived notion Bell is a really good outside shooter. The dude is a career 40.6% from deep which is really impressive. He is getting open looks, most of them just aren't falling. Will they start to fall eventually?

That was then, this is now.

I was trying to figure out last night what Bell would have to shoot to make his presence on the floor worthwhile. It would literally have to be as high as 70 percent.

First of all, his net subtraction to the offense can't be quantified, but he literally doesn't ever make a play. There's lots of guys like Bell in the league who make a living only shooting 3's as the fifth option, but usually they have some value in defense. Bell can't stay with anybody anymore. He just plays "intense". Bell looks EXACTLY like guys look right before they retire -- game's too fast, skills have left the building, other guys are too young.

We saw the best of Harris's offense last night: penetrate and kick to ANYBODY. Don't worry about whether he's setting up that guy for a quality shot; just kick and hope that dude can make the right play. Just propagate the flaw in the defense created by Harris's penetration. (BTW, I don't see how Jefferson fits in that... it was nice to see the offensive potential without him).

I'm not sure why we aren't running more PnR with Hayward.
