Game 5: Termination Game -- Jazz @ Thunder 4/25/2018 7:30 pm MST

I mean, hopefully. Probably?

Anyone remember when the fanbase didn't want to play this team? This loss was probably as deflating for the Jazz as it was rejuvenating for the Thunder.

If the Jazz had won this game, they'd be heading to Houston, facing an even better team. The games are getting more difficult, one way or another.

Cmon, it gets harder from here, either way. The Rockets and Warriors are looming. The games were going to get tougher one way or another.

Yeah so...

Should I have said OKC is the last place I want the Jazz to play a one and done game in the opening round?

Friday is a must win game imo. It will be a big test.

This loss hurts just because of HOW it happened. Losing after being ahead by so much and expecting it was likely over always hurts.

But we're fine. We're the better team. We have the better defense. We have a rebounding advantage. We have a passing/assist advantage. We have matchup advantages and exploit mismatches better than they do. We have better depth. The Thunder have shown no real answer to our defense when we aren't in foul trouble. And we have a 3-2 series lead. I believe in this team. We'll close in 6. I had money on the Jazz to win the series before the series started. Gonna put more on Game 6.

Just like we went on suicide watch after game 1. Chillax. George and Westbrook went off for 80+ plus points. Against out D. With Rudy and Favors in foul trouble. That's not happening again

Wow. I think your dismissing a sleeping tiger here. Three future HOFers is not something to think is an outlier.
I think he meant the 25 point comeback in the 3rd quarter on ridiculous shooting by Westbrook was the outlier.

After that, the Jazz just ran out of gas. Stop the bleeding early and they run away with this. They were too slow to adjust and the Thunder upped their intensity and focus while the Jazz sat back and watched. If they get a good lead at home, I guarantee you that Utah won’t give it back. Letting the crowd back in was a big mistake. Quin was too slow to react and then the Jazz started shooting bad shots and playing bad defense. It was a bad stretch, but was just enough to give them life. Time to come home, wipe the slate clean and close them out.

As much as people want to point to the Thunder grabbing momentum, I actually think the script got flipped. The Jazz let up and gave them life right when they got hot. It’ll be hard to replicate that in Utah. There’s a lot of pressure for the Thunder to keep going and I think that Quin will come back with some new wrinkles and pissed off, confident squad.

Okay, and? You're fine with the heightened risk of injury that each game in this particular series poses? I don't want the team facing a guy that behaves in a way that a criminally insane person off their meds does for one minute longer than necessary. I don't want them burning anymore energy than they have to. I don't want the Rockets to have any extra time to prepare.

I don't get the idea that this loss, seemingly, means practically nothing.

"I don't know what to say, really. 40 hours to the biggest battle of our professional lives. All comes down to today, and either, we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we're finished. We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And, we can stay here, get the **** kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time. Now I can't do it for ya, I'm too old. I look around, I see these young faces and I think, I mean, I've made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I, uh, I've pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who's ever loved me. And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know, when you get old, in life, things get taken from you. I mean, that's... that's... that's a part of life. But, you only learn that when you start losin' stuff. You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the ****ing difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying! I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. And I know, if I'm gonna have any life anymore it's because I'm still willing to fight and die for that inch, because that's what living is, the six inches in front of your face. Now I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. Your gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it your gonna do the same for him. That's a team, gentlemen, and either, we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?" - The greatest coach to ever live

I don't know if it will be so tough for the Thunder. I wonder who will be favored in the game. They have their swagger back. Westrook hasn't had it all series.

Again, I just hope nobody within the organization thinks like this. It's what turns winners into losers. Literally all I'm saying is to not be blinded by overconfidence, I'm not predicting a series loss (unless the overconfidence sets in).

Also, I'm sure you're aware that Westbrook putting up insane lines is the norm, not the exception. He hasn't been doing that. If that comes back this series is much different.

Jazzfanz is kind of full of a bunch of *******. Wouldn’t be Jazzfanz if there wasn’t half the guys around here shaking in their boots before every game.

Rudy, Mitchell and Jingles are going to be pissed at how this game went down. I’m expecting a great game out of those three and a rebound game by Quin. He was trying, but he let the third quarter get away from them. Even just slow that damage down a little and the Jazz probably still win. Letting them tie the game in the 3rd after blowing a big lead was just too much for a tired team to overcome.

That would be cool.

Seriously. Westbrook makes a living off of scenarios like these. OTOH, he's also capable of playing hero ball and chucking up one bad shot after another. Guess we'll have to wait and see which Russell shows up on Friday.
