Game #8 Utah Jazz @ Toronto Raptors - 11/12/12 - 5 PM MST Root Sports

Like I said before, If Al can get more touches we will win more games. If we can Big-AL to take 20-24 Shots a game, we could dominate oure conference.

At some point you do have to give Toronto credit for playing well, the defense wasn't great but at the same time the Raptors hit some tough shots and played better then there numbers show so far this season. So it is nice that even though the Raptors played one of their best games of the season the Jazz still managed to win.

Lots of hate as per the norm and lord knows everybody in my house hears me yelling similar things to the players and coaches at the TV, getting caught up in the moments and reactionary things. My biggest complaint of the night was the lack of rebounding and boxing out by every Jazz big man. However just wanted to say even with the players, teams and coaches faults still need to give credit.

Corbin did change things up with rotations and line ups, even if it isn't exactly what some or a lot of people wanted it still was some change. Mo (maybe due to being a little hobbled) in the first half more so and some in the OT's looked to be distributing first and looking for his shot second. Anyway those are just 2 quick easy examples I thought but there was also more IMO.

Don't expect them to win the next to games but hope for continued signs of growth and improvement.

This.

Guys.. .the question ends up, is this the game it took to break the ice? How to win a game away from home even when down big?

I sure hope so

I asked the same question. Boston will challenge that tomorrow night to be sure.

Corbin sucks. But at least he made some adjustments.

Could barely beat the Raptors (without some of their starters).

Should start: C-Favors (29 mpg), PF- Jefferson (30 mpg), SF- Millsap (33 mpg) , SG- Hayward (30 mpg), PG- Mo Williams (29 mpg)

Bench: Ma Williams (26 mpg), Kanter (20 mpg), Foye (20 mpg), Burks (15 mpg), Tinsley (8 mpg)

Solid 9-10 man rotation.

You guys agree? Rotation problems are solved. Favors, Kanter and Burks get more playing time. Puts us in the best position to succeed. But it still will be tough for us to make the 8th seed. Millsap is way to undersized to play the 4 spot. Is an average athlete at best. Won't be a worse defender at the 3 position as he is against bigger, longer and quicker players at the 4 position.

Yes, we know what big AL's ceiling is - and that along with Millsap it should be enough to make playoffs. They both are in contract year - Corbin has no choice but to play them. He can't give major minutes to Favors and Kanter and risk losing his job. It would be different if nobody would expect Jazz to make playoffs, then hell yes, play youngsters and hope for nice draft pick. And it is just not realistic to expect that given major minutes in this season Favors and Kanter would result in same or close number of the wins for the Jazz, sorry, just not happening. We would lose about 30% more IMHO. We need patience.
I sound like broken record but wait for next year:)!

It will be difficult to achieve the playoffs this year. The eight seed doesn't seem to be a sure thing for the Jazz with this coach and our defensive flaws.

Jefferson and Millsap are arguably one the worst defensive big duos this league can offer.

In order to give us a better chance, we have to move Favors to the starting spot at the Center position with Jefferson and Millsap being starters at the 4 and 3 position.

Start Hayward and Mo Williams as well.

Bring Ma Williams and Foye as scoring sparks off the bench alongside Kanter, Burks and Tinsley as a second unit.

This kind of an adjustment would do wonders to our team! Corbin has a chance to start the veterans together with Favors if Millsap moves to the Small Forward spot. I do think he is better at this position. Millsap is quick enough (look to other slow SF's like Turkoglu or Pierce) to play the three spot. He could post up against other Small Forwards with his strength and his outside shot is decent and consistent enough, imo.

Favors would be our defensive stallwart as a starter: altering shots, blocking shots, moving well and rebounding. Doing the dirty work. He is the only help for our defensive liabilities. Jefferson would use his fat and lazy *** against smaller Power Forwards to outscore them. He has better size and 50 pounds of beef on most of the Power Forwards. He is one big fat dude weighing around 300 lbs.

Problem solved, Mister Corbin. But you are too dumb to unterstand. That's how it is. Simple as that.

Yeah, big AL is bad at pick and roll defense - we know that. But he compensates for it on the other end of the floor. Neither Favors nor Kanter has that ability to do it consistently and when game is on the line. Plus if you put Favors and Kanter as starters now they would foul out without playing in 4th quarter. It is not time yet to handle them reigns. They are not ready.

Also Al gets blamed for plays that are not his fault. Yea, he's slow rotating back but you can't expect anybody to be in two places at once. Somebody else has to rotate behind him to force a charge on the rolling big, and very often nobody does, or does it too late.

Corbin will never let Kanter play 20 Minutes per Game consistently. After EVERY mistake in the second half, he will see his *** in the bench again. With garbage coaching like that, Kanter can never show up his real talent. I know turkish players well, confidence is the Key the need at most .And playing time is the best way to get it in this league.

Look at turkish Big Man Omar Asik, he came to Houston as a overpaid average Big-Man who can´t score and has proven nothing. This Guy never got more than 15 minutes a game during an NBA season before. BUT, just right now, the Houston Fans glorify him as a steel of the Century, after he got his starter Minutes.

And this guy, has not even one quarter of the talent Enes Kanter has.

Al get's blamed more because he is the starter, and the focus of the team on offense. He is lazy, and doesn't defend well enough to justify starting if we want to take a step this year.
It's not only Al's fault. Some of you are so whinny when it comes to picking on Al. A lot of the starters haven't been cutting it on defense. Sap is another.

Pick your poison. Blame can go to Al, Sap, and Corbin for not putting Favors in the starting line up.

I saw Al keep up with the very athletic Amir Johnson getting back on D last night and also he beat Favors down the court offensively several times. The dude has his warts but he's a lot better than JF rates him, and the guy is getting better. I've seen him play on the other side of the hoop, he's got that hook pass into the lane (if anybody will ever cut), he's running a lot harder, and you might notice Kanter's footwork has been improving a great deal.

He should have fouled DeRozan (at the very least) on an easy trip through the lane for a dunk, and their backup point got a strolling layup around him too on a similar play. Amir Johnson pulled down 7 offensive rebounds mostly playing against Al. Again, AJ is not a HOF player. But he's pretty good and Utah won't win without him consistently unless they acquire a marquee playmaking PG or Kanter takes a huge step forward. The 3 big lineup in particular is really poor without Al.

Here is a fun stat for everyone.

Bargnani was 5 of 7 being defended by anyone not named Favors. Bargnani being defended by Favors was 0-10 with only 2 fts.

This makes me happy because I would say that Favors biggest defensive liability was guarding perimeter bigs. Bargnani is about as perimeter as you can get for a big.

It was good to see that too IMO. Everyone knows he has the ability to guard a perimeter big, it just takes a lot more focus and awareness to do so. Which every player can stand to improve upon anyways, so it's an educational matchup for him as well.

No. No he doesn't.

He shoots an incredibly low percentage and shoots an insanely small amount of FTs.

Nothing compensates for bad defense. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. .

So you honestly think playing Favors and Kanter 30+ minutes and getting rid of Al or Millsap would give us more wins this year? Let say you keep Millsap and trade AL. Plug in Favors or Kanter in starting spot. Does that result in more wins? I highly doubt. If you talk about player development then it is different story. But if we want to make playoffs this year - we need big Al, simple as that.

Since I wasn't around last night, here are a few thoughts I have about the game.

1. It annoys me to no end that Kleiza so often seems to light the Jazz up.
2. It was great to see Favors get so much playing time.
3. Hayward needs to start making more shots.
4. I was thrilled to see Corbin make a couple of offense-defense substitutions late in some of the OTs.
5. My only disappointment (and it's a very minor one) is that Favors didn't get a chance to much on offense in the OTs.
6. The Jazz finally won on the road! Woooooo!

Good point. And those 2 FT's were an absolute gift. Favors got Bargnani on the arm but that was because he was trying to use it to brush Favors away. Although now that I think of it Favors fouled him on the perimeter as well - so it might have been 4FTs.

Despite what you may think of AB as a complete ball player - he is a top shelf scorer. When Favors can shut a guy down like that you can't keep him on the bench any more.

There is no way to prove/disprove these things and I completely disagree. You will not change my mind.

To answer your question - Yes, I believe it does. At the least they are equal and it does not result in any additional losses.
And no, I don't think the Jazz need Big Al to make the playoffs. Getting an 8 seed in the playoffs is not much of an accomplishment in the NBA. More so in the west than the east yes, but still not much of an accomplishment.

That is my opinion, there is no way to determine who is correct, and I will not change my mind no matter what you say.

Thats totally fine with me and I respect it, even if I think you are wrong. Unless big AL gets injured or traded we can only speculate. Cheers!
