Game of Thrones(HBO Series)

I had also heard that one of the deals HBO negotiated with Martin was that he would have the last two installments out fairly quickly. We'll see.

Well that would really be something. But I'll believe it when I see it... Martin seems to just be slow with these, which is understandable given how complex they are. I would bet that he either won't have them done soon enough, or they simply won't be as good because he hasn't refined them as much as the others. We'll see.

I just watched the first episode and like the first 5 minutes of the second. If I do not like the series at this point would I like it later? Like are most game of thrones fans hooked at the very first episode or does it take a while? I am just not digging the series so far, it might be because they introduce a lot of characters rather then developing a few so I don't give 2 ****s or a pancake about any of the characters so far.

I had the entire series recorded before I started, so it was easy to go from one episode to the next. Had I tried to watch the series as it was shown, I'm not sure I would have stayed with it. At the end of the first season, I was hooked big time.

You're right that season two was too short. Book two was a longer book, and it really could have used another few episodes to cover everything it should have covered. That was too bad, but I suppose budgets are what they are. They have a pretty generous budget already.

But the good news is that book three will be split into two seasons. This next season will cover roughly the first half of book three, and it will end with an iconic scene that takes place around the middle of book three... those who have read the books know which scene I mean.

As for book four... yeah, it was kinda disappointing. But for those who don't know, a big reason for this was that book four didn't cover a lot of the main protagonists at all. That was because book four had gotten so long that Martin literally cut out half the viewpoints and moved them to book five, so that book five almost became like like book four, part two: a lot of book five takes place at the same time as book four, just with a different character set in different places. For this reason, it's a virtual certainty that the TV show will weave books four and five together, and possibly start taking even more liberties to make it all mesh correctly.

What I'm really wondering is what will happen when HBO has covered all the material Martin has written. It took him five years to write book four and six years to write book five, and as Martin plans to write two more books, it seems safe to assume he won't be done with them by the time they've finished filming the existing novels. I'd imagine HBO will simply be forced to stop and leave the final books unfilmed. Hard to re-assemble a cast and crew after a years-long hiatus when most of them will probably be committed to other projects.

EDIT: BTW, book three is the best book by general consensus, so I'm hoping this next season will be even better than the others. I'm particularly looking forward to the Jaime-Brienne and Daenerys storylines.

I am excited and dreading the iconic scene in book 3 that you speak of.... i think that scene kicked my *** emotionally more than anything from any book ever has.

And ya book 4 the worst of the bunch imo..... I kind of think that after book 3 the series has went downhill mainly due to the fact that there are just too many characters to follow, and too much storyline to cover.
I still loved dance with dragons but i feel like it was the 4 best book in the series so far due to all the characters and storylines going on.

I agree that book five also wasn't that great. There were a lot of people who seemed to really like it, but like you, I don't think it touched the first three. I did like the Wall stuff in book five, the rest was kinda meh.

Where am I? What's happening? I'm so confused.
