What's new

Game Of Thrones

I need to read the books. The show is amazing.

Favorite characters are Tyrion, Dany, Margery and the Stark kids (excluding Snow). I want them all to team up and burn the world.

I envy you reading the books for the first time. The first three are some of my favorite books ever.

FWIW, I think the second book drags just a little in the first half, with the exception of the Tyrion chapters, which are entertaining as all get-out from the very beginning. All the other storylines pick up more in the second half.

Then there's book three, which is pretty universally considered the best one.

Then you need to prepare for a little disappointment in book four. It's not poorly written, but the number of viewpoints he was writing had multiplied so much that he cut out a lot of the major characters and put them in book five instead, so it feels like the book of also-rans (he also introduced a whole new set of viewpoint characters from Dorne that I didn't care about at all). It's the point where he started to let the series get away from him, and I'm not sure he's going to recover enough to return to the form he had in the first three books.

My favorite parts of Feast of Crows were Dorne and Brienne parts. It was a build-upthe Dorne part) and I kind of love those. I mean, I didn't hate Crossroads of Twilight in Wheel of Time.

I thought it was pretty balanced as well. It didn't have many major characters but it did have Cersei and Jamie and some of Arya. I was pretty disappointed that it didn't include Bran, though.

This last season I hated daenary's for being such a cocky leader, killing all noblemen even the good ones, letting that one cool guy leave because he used to be a spy. I think someone is going to capture her dragon that is roaming the world or going to capture her two dragons that are chained up. I wouldn't feel bad at all. She used to be one of my favorite characters.

So far, for me at least, he isn't committing the big sins of fantasy novels : breaking his own laws of magic, going against the established millieu, breaking character (as in there was no way ned could have seen through littlefingers betrayal because it is not in neds character, for example),etc. As long as he keeps moving as he has so far I don't think I'll be too disappointed. Love it so far, even the beginning of book 2.

100% correct post to sum up the series.
Books 1-3 all terrific, with three being the best,
Then he loses focus and takes us all over the place and introduces way too much **** to the mix.

Yeah, books four and five are a lot of dog chasing it's own tail. But when I think back I realize important stuff does actually happen. I just wasn't so sure while I was reading it.

That said I'm eagerly awaiting book six. Anyone have any info on when it might be released?

Ya for how much **** I give crows, and to a lesser extent dance, they are still good books and I can't wait for 6 (winds of winter?)
No idea when it comes out

I made the mistake of visiting a SoIaF fan site and read one too many theories on where this is all going and found one that makes too much sense and is not what I was hoping for. I'm pretty sure I know what's going to happen.

:(

I think I know too.
Has to do with lineage/geneology/past hooks ups

I'm good with the ending that I think is coming btw

Then tell me. Don't just mention it. Use the spoiler tag. I am used to some facebook profile comments under a Game of Thrones meme that goes like "Wow what a cool picture and btw Jon Snow and Daenerys are siblings" or smth.
