The Dala poster is my favorite. It should continue in future game threads with him possibly losing faith as the season goes on.
Dal bro, I realized you have a perk.
Grow a beard and you look like a Muslim.
Shave it and you look like a Canadian.
I think it's funny it's not racist, it's a joke

If Corbin was a white man would that picture still have watermelon and fried chicken? Live in Alabama, Mississippi, or even Texas for a while and you would understand that there is a second message to that picture (dumb black man, and dumb because he is black). It's completely racist, and we honestly don't need to propagate any cycle of the racist circle of life. Racism goes both ways... and it needs to be stopped.
The author may not realize what they are "copying", and that's the sad part.
I've seen a couple of his cartoons and I can only scratch my head at all the praise he gets for them each time. I haven't found any of them to be even a tiny bit funny... and BTW, I am no Corbin fan.Completely agreed.
I usually appreciate trollololoo'z work and I usually enjoy stereotypical and racist jokes that are not on mine (!), but this one is not even funny. I'm sorry, I don't comment about bad jokes generally but since this offended someone, I felt like I should post.
I'm a long time lurker, but this thread finally compelled me to post.
It is disturbing to see an extremely racist and offensive caricature of Tyrone Corbin posted in this thread—and disappointing to see a moderator reply without comment on it. As Jazz fans, we should be better than this.
For those unaware of the history of the symbols used in that cartoon and their associations with racism, you can refer to Ethnic Notions, an excellent film on the topic that I've linked to here.
I've also linked specific information to several of the more obvious stereotypes this cartoon draws upon.
Pickaninny
Watermelon
Fried chicken
There is no place for racial stereotypes such as these on a basketball forum. The image and its associated posts should be taken down.
The judgment is not of the work as 'art,' but of the history of the symbols used to represent Tyrone Corbin as a black man and of their association with racism.
Did you look at the links in my post? The artist (intentionally or not) draws upon racialized ideas of African Americans looking and acting 'childish;' of having 'immature' tastes for only sweets and fats (i.e., compared to whites' more 'sophisticated' tastes). Again, if you look at the links I posted, you would see that in the plantation-era, fried chicken and watermelon were used to symbolize the contented slave; as in, slaves were like children who only needed their base needs tended to in order to enjoy life on the plantation. It became a way of reinforcing the idea that slavery was mutually beneficial to master and slave.
To be clear, I am not saying that Trollol...etc knew these things when he drew the comic, only that his use of fried chicken, watermelon, and pickanniny imagery goes far beyond matters of mere taste, as some of you seem to suggest in your replies. As I hope I have explained, it goes much deeper than that.
To make more clear my point(which wasn't about the picture at all), trolling is an artform. Using any possible means to get someone to bite. You bit. That's all.
