Fantastic loss. Went toe-to-toe with the best team in the NBA record-wise on THEIR court and just missed a win (thankfully). It's games like these that make you salivate at the prospect of just adding a couple more decent players to the core5 and letting them PLAY!

when i miss a game, i like coming into the gt and reading orange's consecutive 5-10 posts after each game. it really helps recapitulate what happened.
 
Add my name to those who think this game is worth celebrating! The Jazz played really well - for where they've been and where they are going and still lost.

Burks, while his shooting % isn't so great this game, had a sweet assist game. (I think he's been told prior to this point: "just practices your slashin' we'll worry about assists later.")
Burke was not spectacular, but showed enough - good shots off the pick and some big threes that he'll be find down the road
Favors was a stud and the central figure of the game on both O and D there for a while. It showed his growth and now I expect him to be REEEALLY good 2 years from now.
Hayward found his clutchness, gamesmanship that he was lauded for as a collegian, and hopefully, this will pull him out of his funk. In spite of all the hate here, he's a good player. (I understand the hate comes from the negotiations leading to the perception that he thinks he's a max player or whatever, but tonight he looked to be in his role, not overdoing it like early in the season.)
Kanter was solid.

But more importantly, the Jazz looked good on offense. This is baaaaad news for the Corbin haterzz. The Pacers are the best defensive team in NBA (one of anyway) and the Jazz were running a legit offense and getting good looks because of it. Now it is also true that the Jazz made mistakes - but so did the team they are playing, who happens to be the best in the NBA at the moment.

Frankly, there is a lot to be excited about.
 
And with respect to Corbin... I flip flop back and forth about the level of tank that he's a part of. It seems the games against good teams, the Jazz play much better, the rotations are more relevant (but usually sticking to script, ala JSlo) This game, the Miami game at home, the OKC game, one (at least) of the SAS games, showed me that if the Jazz want to, they can compete quite well with the best teams in the league. The crappy games happen because its just a reality that the Jazz are not that good yet, but also, they are aided by experiments/practice efforts (Hayward given the green light to shoot every time he touches it regardless, Kanter to do the same, etc) But most of that stuff and the various other weird adjustments come against crappier teams.

Also, this is consistent with the JSlo model which is to give guys reps on key elements of their game early in the season, work with consistent substitution patterns, (where's InGameStrategy to debate this can of worms) work the offense and defensive plans regardless of who's hot, etc. Corbin is using this model - but it appears he's experimented more based on the level of the competitor... "soft tank" I guess...

Any thoughts on that? (not that soft tanking is a bad idea, but rather if you think that is a conscious plan)
 
Glad to see Rush is completely out of the rotation for now.

In a 3 person wing rotation, Burks will see at least 30 mpg.

Offense hasn't been the main problem with Corbin. It's always been more defense, and our lack of it.
 
Favors has really established himself in the league this year. Nice steady performance defensively and decent offense some nights.

Regardless of it being the main problem or not, the offense had been painful to watch early on. Lately, and especially, this game, it was fun to watch and was effective against a good defensive team.
 
If we had limited our TO's or if Derrick would have hit his FT's, this game would have been ours easily.
