Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

Just got back from the game and man, is it late. What a great win! I gotta say, the fans and atmosphere at LES are STRANGE! I've lived in Utah my whole life and I swear I felt like I was on another planet. Very kooky.

UGLI has said this as well. Pls elaborate

Dude... I'm sorry. I was being sarcastic and poking fun at you, and your post about the refs.

I'm a jerk.

I gotta admit, I'm sure gonna miss my cupcake's for the next two years. Therefore, I made a deal with the Devil to make up a special batch to hold us all over. The taste is either bitter or extremely sweet, depending on whether you bleed blue or Red. One bite lasts for months for the Red and years for the blue. Let's be honest, these may have to last blue for decades before they taste anything different.

Happy B-day Dalabum!

Lololol.

PS, in response to your rep: I'm definitely not a BYU fan. I'm as neutral as they come-- and enjoy flinging **** at the loser.

It's particularly enjoyable when you had posters like Duck, Trout, and Thrill talking out of their *** for weeks beforehand

I'm not UGLI (obvi) or a lefty... but I think can elaborate a bit.

I have gone to a few events that were predominantly LDS in the crowd. I'm talking like concerts, not a church event..
It was weird and awkward.. especially for the performers, imo.

They would come out on stage expecting people to stand up, shout, and holler.. but instead got a very strange golf clap.
For those few that did act like most would act at a concert, those people were looked at as if on drugs or likely just a lost soul, lol.

Anyway, an entire evening of poker-faced fans golf clapping their way to the grand finale.. a glance to their neighbor and a mid-level (not too high, now) five.

I'm not hating on LDS... but those concerts were very awkward and, frankly, embarrassing to be part of.

In all honesty, I thought it all evened out, like fishonjazz said. There were terrible calls on both sides. Typical PAC-12 refs.
The Pac-12 refs are horrible. The only bad thing about being in the Pac-12 is you have to deal with the worst football officials I've seen. They should just fire them all and hire the old MWC officials they were much better than the trash the pac-12 offers.

Congrats lil brother! You beat Tim Tebow Heaps/Nelson/Hill. Now enjoy your 5 game losing streak and enjoy your December offseason workout program. We'll send ya a few pics from our bowl game!
Enjoy your who gives a **** bowl, and your slew of meaningless games for the next 3 years.

Cry some more please.
You mean like BYU's receiver's every time their QB hit the field instead of throwing it near them. Just throw your hands up intentionally run into the defender and start whining for a call. I seriously saw this around 3-4 times.

Sadly this...
I hate independence, at least in the mountain west you could aim for a conference championship.

I like the schedule as an independent but I once you lose a game the season is basically over.

Byu lost to virginia in week one and I already felt like there wasnt much to play for anymore..... it was awesome beating texas but it didn't really mean anything in the long run.

Did you see how they contained Chucky? Absolutely incredible. They made him look like a Pee football QB. Fight on, Fight on!

Legit LOL'd when I saw Duck's avatar.

Recall:

I've got to go to SLC today so I'll be wearing a BYU shirt. Maybe take a stroll around the U campus in it. I'm expecting yawns and kisses.

If he happens to stay at SLC for the entire weekend, guaranteed someone will spot Duck with a USC shirt on Sunday

Yep... little brother got an *** whoopin' yet again.

Well, a win by 7 with two BYU TDs called back* and a chance for BYU to tie in the last minute is hardly an *** whoopin'.

But congrats to Utes and Ute fans. Nice job on the run defense, and I wish we had a QB who could complete more than 40% of his passes.

* edit: not saying BYU deserved those TDs, just that they had their chances to score and couldn't capitalize.

Did you think he said Utah whooped BYU's ***? I think he was making fun of someone who who had been screaming from the rooftops that BYU would whoop Utah's ***, but who turned out to be incorrect as usual.

4 in a row
9 of last 12
I think it's safe to say Utah has dominated this rivalry lately.
It is uncanny though how almost all of these games come down one team still having a chance at the end. Was anybody surprised when BYU got back to within a TD. Because I wasn't. Just look at my Bro watching the game with me and rolled my eyes, saying here we go again.

Also I am not one of the Utah fans that think it's a good thing this game is going away for 2 years. While other games are more important to Utah now this is still the most fun game of the year to watch. I wish they had found a way to play it.

Ah, sorry! Yes, I mis-read his post. Didn't realize he was quoting BYU fan in a sarcastic way.

Ok, so it's like this: Please don't think I'm hating on the LDS. As I've said in countless other posts, I've lived in the Ogden/Layton area my entire life and have countless LDS family and friends who I love and respect very much. With that being said, I think last night was the first time I saw a completely different LDS than what I'm used to.

My girlfriend and I were seated in an area that had about 15 people who were obvious family members surrounding us. About 8 of the people were children ranging from 8 to 2 years old. The kids ran wild in the stands with ZERO discipline from their parents. The married couples did not interact AT ALL. The wives sat a row in front of their husbands, never looked at each other, or spoke to each other. They only communicated through the children ("ask your mom", "go see daddy", etc). At one point, my girlfriend asked one of the husbands a question about the game. He spun around and hollered "Not Now!. He never turned back around after game action had stopped to apologize or even discuss why she had asked him a question. The children were basically in my gf's lap the entire evening with their jumping around, trash throwing, and general disrespectful behavior. The adults and children had no problem staring at us as if we were the devil. I actually liked that part, but I've never seen so many adults who will just stare at you.

The crowd as a whole was quieter than I expected. I was in the east bleachers at the 50 yard line 35 rows up so maybe it wasn't as loud way up there but I was amazed how little of an impact that crowd had as a whole (maybe the fact that the stadium is 1/3 full of toddlers is a factor). I've been a visitor in many stadiums and while you always get razzed, you tend to get about as much respect back as you put out. LES was easily the rudest/strangest group I've ever been around.

I actually think that's probably the norm. The guys want to watch the game and the wives want to get together and talk. The kids get ignored. The same thing happens in the houses where friends/famililes get together to watch the game.

Agreed. It's more than a game and it delivers again and again. This year's actual game was not one of the classics, but the SPENCE picture is going to make it memorable for me. It's particularly funny that BYU fans focused on the fan who sent in the photo so much. Isn't there a BYU directive that actually encourages students to rat out fellow students for honor code violations. Ironic that they would have such a problem with an outsider doing exactly what they are expecting their own to do.

I think seeing these two teams meet in a bowl game is going to be epic, though, so the two year hiatus has a silver lining.

They showed a couple of shots on TV where two red fans were sitting in the middle of a sea of blue. I wonder if one of those was you and your girlfriend.
