Ok, so it's like this: Please don't think I'm hating on the LDS. As I've said in countless other posts, I've lived in the Ogden/Layton area my entire life and have countless LDS family and friends who I love and respect very much. With that being said, I think last night was the first time I saw a completely different LDS than what I'm used to.
My girlfriend and I were seated in an area that had about 15 people who were obvious family members surrounding us. About 8 of the people were children ranging from 8 to 2 years old. The kids ran wild in the stands with ZERO discipline from their parents. The married couples did not interact AT ALL. The wives sat a row in front of their husbands, never looked at each other, or spoke to each other. They only communicated through the children ("ask your mom", "go see daddy", etc). At one point, my girlfriend asked one of the husbands a question about the game. He spun around and hollered "Not Now!. He never turned back around after game action had stopped to apologize or even discuss why she had asked him a question. The children were basically in my gf's lap the entire evening with their jumping around, trash throwing, and general disrespectful behavior. The adults and children had no problem staring at us as if we were the devil. I actually liked that part, but I've never seen so many adults who will just stare at you.
The crowd as a whole was quieter than I expected. I was in the east bleachers at the 50 yard line 35 rows up so maybe it wasn't as loud way up there but I was amazed how little of an impact that crowd had as a whole (maybe the fact that the stadium is 1/3 full of toddlers is a factor). I've been a visitor in many stadiums and while you always get razzed, you tend to get about as much respect back as you put out. LES was easily the rudest/strangest group I've ever been around.
Just an observation....
It's difficult to get too loud and excited for your team when you haven't seen them complete 2 consecutive passes in 3+ years.
True, you have your BYU homers and Provoans who will go to the games because there's nothing better to do than make babies, go ice blocking, and go to the games.
But for true football fans, it's tough to get excited over Hill's 30 percent passing. Real fans of football (who cheer for Utah for all but one week out of the year) understand who the better football program is and which is far more entertaining. We respect you guys and even join you at your own games. For me, I like to be entertained!
Lets apply this concept to the NBA. The jazz have been decently competitive the last few years. Yet the delta center (I refuse to call it energy dump) has been deathly quiet and fans couldn't wait to get rid of the stars (Millsap and Jefferson). Part of the issue was the style of basketball: about as entertaining as watching paint dry.
The warriors? They aren't that good. But their style is so entertaining. Their crowd is loud and fans are proud not because they've won anything but because they're fun to watch.
So while Utah's play last night killed the crowd... Let's admit, the crowd was already on life support because of the last 4 years of BYU offense. Just imagine if you had Ludwig and Wynn/Hayes for 4 straight years. Painful... I know...
Your stadium would be awfully quiet too if you saw your team go 3 and out hard and fast for the 4th straight time in a qtr while BYU had a 6 foot 7 dual threat QB who could create big plays with his arm. You would understand the frustration of knowing that even if your defense holds the opposing team to just 2 or 3 TDs you'll probably still be blown out because your offense struggles to even score one.

Agree, but that was indeed a horrible non-call to end the game. BYU should've had another chance for Taysom to throw the football 20 yards out of the back of the endzone. Dude tackled him and laid on him while the ball was in the air.
All very good points. I'm very interested to see where BYU goes from here. If Hill doesn't improve on his accuracy, do the stick with him? Is Mangum back off his mission next year. It's starting to look like Taysom is a spot filler until BYU finds a better option.
Oh, and any word on Jamal's condition? I hated to see him go down. Kid is a straight up baller. Hope he's back and healthy soon.
Nice try. I watched with a large group that was almost equally split between U fans and Y fans. We watched the play several times and in the end everybody agreed that the Y player tackled the U player. I agree that it would have been fun to watch Taysom throw it 15 rows into the grandstand behind the end zone on the final play of the game, though. That kids arm is entertainingly inaccurate!Agree, but that was indeed a horrible non-call to end the game. Love the recording of a TV screen with a phone. Usually means a fan is really pissed off and wants to get that **** posted asap.
The bigger question is, what's with the almost perfect geometric sweat patterns on so many of the BYU players (not just in this clip but from the first play of the game). The guy is wrapped around Matthews before any handfighting is going on. His right arm hooks around Matthews before he's even touched:
