What's new

Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

The only one that I'm personally aware of involved cheating at the Testing Center. The girl was caught by Testing Center employees.
A quick online search reveals quite a few people who claim to have been ratted out, but you're certainly closer to the situation than me. No surprise that the angriest people would be the loudest. As far as I'm concerned these students signed the code and should be prepared to deal with the consequences no matter how they get caught. It's irrelevant who ratted them out... even if that person claims to be "a huge Utah fan."

BTW, did you know that a person using the same name as this "huge Utah fan" posted information on a BYU message board before the whole situation broke? Too me it looks doubtful that he was a Utah fan at all. Some people say the real motivation is he was upset that SPENCE is dating his former girlfriend. UGLI mentioned that on this board.

I'm sure it happens. And it probably SHOULD happen sometimes. If my daughter were a student at BYU and her roommate, for example, came home drunk or had a boy sleep over, I would absolutely tell her she should talk to her dorm's RA and if they couldn't resolve things, then the Honor Code office. But what I took exception to was the premise that there was systematic pressure put on students to "tattle" on their fellow students. I've never heard or seen anything like that.

Totally agreed.

No, didn't know that... but why email it to the Utah people then? Why not directly to the BYU athletic dept or Honor Code office? And why wait for (presumably) a month instead of emailing it earlier? Seems like there are serious flaws with that theory as well.

He won't, because that's just how it is with BYU. They put themselves at competitive disadvantages when they're already at a permanent competitive disadvantage (do I even need to list what they are)? The only way to be the best is to strive towards being the best and that's not what BYU is about. Which is fine.

There is room for some marginal improvement in the program, but national championships are not and will not be realistic nor reasonable goals. Who wants to let students live their lives, be in a major conference, broaden their student and recruiting base, or decide to stop emblazoning the name of the most famous racist that the church has had to offer anyway? They have that moral high-ground to lose if they did any of those things. Good for them, their asses, and the heads that are in them.

Of course they are not going to change in many aspects. My whole argument has been that Bronco is not the right man for the job and they should look to improve wherever they can. I don't think they will fire Bronco. I do think they should. JMO.

I had to stay at my wife's BYU approved housing before we were married because there was a huge storm and there was no way I was driving back to Price through that canyon safely. Her roommates were not happy, but whatever, we ended up moving in with each other at the beginning of next month anyways.

Personally, I think people should get to decide what is good or what isn't good for them. There are always exceptions to the rules. BYU, much like most religions, want to control people in the most grotesque invasive ways possible.

Tell me about it. My favorite part is where they hold a gun to people's heads and force them to sign the honor code.

You stupid *** hair.

No idea who this guy really is or why he handled things the way he did, but here's a screenshot someone took of the post. In the emails to the U he called himself Darren Lacy, so there is a very good chance this was the same guy. The post was deleted from the message board soon after it was written. He's clearly trying to act as if he's a Cougar fan in this message, though (talking about "our AD," "our Senior LB," etc.). https://i.imgur.com/gUFBejx.jpg

BYU is not the only option out there. If you don't like the rules go somewhere else. I would never attend BYU even if they would have me(they most certainly would not).

Don't give me that storm crap you just wanted to spend the night with your lady friend. If you had been on the other side of price canyon when the storm hit you would have drove through it to see her.

OK. Not sure why it's more likely that he's a Cougar fan who posed as a Ute fan to send in the "goods", rather than a Ute fan who posed as a Cougar fan to troll the message boards. But then again, I don't really care that much, either.

Yeah, cuz fans of other teams NEVER troll message boards. If he really is a BYU fan and emailed it to Utah acting as a Utah fan hoping to stir things up, he really put WAY too much thought and energy into the rivalry. If he's really a Utah fan who waited until the week before the game to send the email to Utah, he put WAY too much thought and energy into the rivalry.

I didn't say it was more likely he was a Cougar fan. I said from the start that you and other Cougars shouldn't be so obsessed with making his allegiance part of the story, but you and other Cougs just couldn't quit saying things like, "I just think it's funny that this pathetic Ute fan waited until rivalry week to tattle on him."

It's enlightening (but not surprising) that now that questions are arising about who this guy really is and what his motivations were, all of the Cougar fans who thought his Ute fandom was such a fascinating part of the story could suddenly care less who he is. This even includes the level headed professors among them. Thank you for making my point.

No flaws. He may dislike Spence, but is probably also still a big time BYU fan. If you're determined to hurt the guy who stole your girl, what better way than to make your rival look like they did it? Plus it's a solid form of misdirection that seems to have worked. Mostly.

Fair enough. Props for pokin' your head out.

Which is more than you can say for that little ***** awesome ****head otherwise known as Jazz-I-Am-Still-Smarter-Than-The-Moran-Lefty-Spazz.

Wow, for your team winning, you are sure acting like a loser.

I had my fun and let you know I'd be back Monday. Well it's Monday.

Props to the Ute players and coaches for playing and coaching a better game than the Y players and coaches.

The Y fans that threw crap at the refs are morans. Extremely stupid thing to do.

Glad Williams will be okay and that he wasn't hurt worse, that looked bad.

Anybody calling for Ammon Olson yet? From what I've seen he can actually pass the ball, doubt he can run much though.

Honestly I agree with those saying it's a strange place and atmosphere when watching a game in LES. East side different than West side, and end zones different from both and nosebleeds different than up close. I don't think the kid should be there if they're not old enough, or going to watch the game. Goes for the wife too. It bugs me anywhere if parents let their kids bother other people in those situations with zero discipline. Don't bring the kid if you don't want to watch them and keep them under control.

Final thought, though it hurts. It is true that as of right now and the last 12 years the Ute coaches and players own the Y when it comes to football. :(

Carry on.

No PM. Instead, send the money to help my friend's wife:

If anyone else would like to help, please feel free.

That is truly messed up that the insurance company will not help in this when her life is at stake here.
I hope her family can get enough support for her to get the treatment she needs, and that she'll get the match she needs and that some sort of miracle can happen for her.

No child or spouse should lose their parent/spouse so soon.

Lol @ BYU fans.

Lol. Your team sucks big time.

After Pres Uchtdorf and Elder Holland came out with their sportsmanship talks and you guys keep acting the way you act...lol.

You guys suck. Does it hurt knowing we win OVER 70% of the games in Provo? We OWN you.

Now, be good little bitches, and GO AWAY.

Who's acting like a moran?

Hey Conan, I didn't realize you were a Ute fan! And how did you change your username without me knowing?

For those who are glad that the rivalry is taking a 2 year break (I am one), don't get too comfy.

I'm willing to bet that during the next 2 years, you see these 2 teams in a bowl game. Not sure who BYU is tied in with over the next 2 years but with these West Coast bowls, there's almost certainly going to be a Pac 12 tie in somewhere down the line.

Can you imagine a FULL MONTH of build-up heading into this game? The nastiness and idiocy will be at an all-time high coming from both sides. Whichever bowl is lucky enough to have Utah-BYU fall into their lap will snatch it up in a heartbeat!

It will be epic. But I have to say, given the track record, I'm fine with Whittingham and Co. having a month to prep for BYU.
