GAMETHREAD: Jazz vs Lakers, Anaheim 8:00pm MT

I've been watching play low post defense and his holding his own with Odom. Made a nice basket assist from Hayward.

Apart from over playing Pau and committing a foul, Fesenko holding his own vs. Gasol. Unfortunately he bobbles the ball on the other end with a difficult pass from Deron. Probably would've gotten called for 3 seconds anyway, says the L.A. announcers. Ironically, it's Odom who gets called for 3 seconds on the next play. Not sure that we could say that these preseason refs are giving any favoritism to the reigning champs.

After a block by Fes on Ebanks with 40 seconds left, Hayward still looks really comfortable starting a fast break. Fes gets the ball on the block and turns it over passing it back to Deron. KF redeems himself somewhat on the next play dishing it out to Catch-'n-Jack for another play. CJ ends the half with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Locke calls the Jazz 2Q play sloppy. [Lots of young players running around, and subbing in Deron wasn't enough to settle things down.]

Entertaining to watch the aggressive political ads from the KCAL station.

The incumbent for attorney general reaffirmed that he earned his pension given the "low" salary he was receiving ($150K) [which is probably below-average for a lawyer but nothing to scrape a living over].

I agree the second unit struggled offensively but I thought they played good defense. Jazz have already demonstrated they are a better defensive team than last year. They are more athletic and players are rotating a lot better. I think both Evans and Gordon will eventually be in the rotation. I am hoping Watson can get the hang of the offense and fill the backup PG role. RB is too up and down but i think he is useful in certain situations.

Hayward played some pretty good D, also got a few steal and won 2 jump balls but somehow the Jazz didn't get too either of them.

I disagree with Hayward playing pretty good D. He gave up going after his man when he was shooting more than once

In Q2, Kirilenko active early with a block or two, a rebound or two, and a couple of shots or so.

After Artest takes it to the hole, Utah is up 46-38 with 7:30 left. Check that --49-38 after a Raja trey, which is especially satisfying given who is defending Bell [allegedly].

He cut off penetration from Shannon Brown and played good D against LA's rookie Ebanks IMO, besides his hustle steals. Not saying great but pretty good for a rookie.

AK starting 2nd half well as well a couple of mistakes offensively but playing good D and hustling along with a 3 and tough 2 handed dunk in traffic.
