Go GET Teague

The hype/hope for Exum is even dumber than the hoype for Burks and the hoype for playing a bunch of mediocre NBA players ahead of established vets.

I'm starting to wonder if this fan base truly is the dumbest fan base in professional sports. Utah will never win a championship because the fans are so easy to sell a basket full of bull **** to.

See y'all next blowup-rebuild.

Another way to go and this is basically saying this year is lost is if we still believe in Exum is to go after Nando De Colo in the off season. He has been tearing it up in the Euroleague and is probably the best player this year. He can play the 1 and 2 as well. This would give Exum a good vet to play with while he improves his play. We also do not give up any good assets like we would have to to get Teague.

the notion that the intelligence and judgment of the fanbase affect the teams actual ability to win is truly dumb.

stepping way back, I'd say that the odds of what you're saying is true are reasonably high. But then there's this whole "born fan" thing -- with which you and I (and others) are afflicted.

Teague showed every sign of a true breakout last year and the year before. He's a Tony Parker type, who forces an initial flaw in the defense, which other passers and scorers can take advantage of. He's never been a high-volume assister. That's fine.

There's also a reasonable chance that the market for Teague is pretty tepid, so that he could be had for relative scraps (in terms of players that you yourself, Sir franklin, have liked).

There's value to the franchise in a playoff run + playoff position next year. There's value added to pieces like Hayward, Favors, Gobert, etc. when they have playoff experience + more time with above average PG help.

If true, this is the PG they should go after!!!!!!!!!! I'd condone trading future picks. He can easily play next to Exum/Hood/Hayward

@hoopscritic
In taking to people around the league on who has been made available in trade talks a very surprising name has come up: DeAngelo Russell

this is the same guy that said the Jazz will get Teague... I think he is nothing more than a guy who can't tie a proper neck tie and spews hot takes. Obviously you go get Russell, but this is not really true.

This rebuild is FUBAR.

Teague
Hayward
Hood
Favors
Gobert

No better than Clippers or Rockets. They would give Dallas a good run for their money.

Teague and then what?

Teague and then maybe second round of the playoffs in 2017, and then maybe Gobert has turned into that monster being forcefed lobs, maybe then because of the team's success better trades can be had because the team's players have more value, perhaps can Teague be let go because he taught Exum well and he is ready to takeover ???

But no some of you guys just expect that some way we will barter some picks and Burke for Anthony Davis or that we can magically win the lottery for Ben Simmons à la 2008 Bulls with Rose...

If you guys just want to dream of the ultimate triumph, be my guests, but odds of not tasting the playoffs are higher that way. What I want is to enjoy a ride. if it has to finish the 2015 Blazers' way, fair enough, but you give it a go and then you remember games that at least actually took place instead of pipe dreams.

Winning it all is awfully awfully hard.

are you folks yearning for 2015 Allstar Teague (RPM 16th among PGs, 7th in DRPM, 27th in ORPM), WS48 = 0.172 (5th on Hawks)

or are you yearning for 2016 Teague: (RPM 44th among PG, 23rd ORPM, 66 DRPM), WS48= 0.078 (8th on Hawks)?

Flame away at the statistics, but face it, he isn't half the player he was last year.

Anyone curious about why he is falling off a cliff? Or why the Hawks are so eager to move him (before he falls further)?

His career may have crested, may be past his prime (this can happen mentally or physically). Color me dubious unless he is a "bridge to Exum"

That's the clueless response I'd expect from this fan base. Keep writing the Miller's sales script. At least you're drinking your own Koolaid. Many naive fan bases have been/are being abused by the same game.

Fair enough.

What I'm asking is then what? How are the Jazz going to improve on Master Mind DL's 5th seed at best and approaching massive free agency contract matches build?

Exum, Pleiss, Ingles, Neto... give me a ****ing break. This team needs talent. DL ain't done ****. If your theory held any water then why the hell didn't he bring in a guy to raise everyone's value last summer? Because it's all about the $.

I'm fine with getting Teague, but I wouldn't give up much to get him. It's clear that the Hawks are moving on and want to turn the reigns over to Schroder. With his subpar year and contract, I think they'll "Kanter" him and just take the best deal on the table.

guys, keep arguing hypothetically if you want. But any player we would have acquired WOULD HAVE PLAYED MEANINGFUL MINUTES THIS YEAR. If the return to health brought a logjam with it, then you move pieces for different ones or picks.

In other words, the presence of injuries FURTHER PROVES that cakk bakking was stupid.

The amount of injuries we've dealt with is highly unusual this season-- no other NBA team has had to deal with this many injuries across the squad.

Using this season as a precedent for injury insurance isn't wise IMO because rarely will a roster be this deficient. Not only that-- but Alec's injury hasn't even been that detrimental to wing production. Not at all. Our wings have been fine. It's been Derrick's, and Rudy's injuries that have butt-****ed us-- and most of the anti-CBs weren't clamouring for players that backed up their positions. So there's something to consider.

Your anti-cake baking largely hinged on playing Alec most of his minutes at the 1, which some were adamantly against (myself included-- I wanted him to play 20 at the 2 and 10 at the 1). I still don't see us being a contending team with him there.

Accordingly, you would have a logjam at the wing, which was a position of strength for us. Hood and Hayward are very deserving of starters minutes, and even Alec's absence hasn't made our wings ineffective. The problem on offense continues to be consistent PG play. The problem on defense was only injuries.

Advocating for cake-baking is an acknowledgement of this strength. There isn't a need to target a FA to a big contract because we didn't need one, and we don't need to make a ring-run this particular year. If we just sit tight and focus on meaningful growth for one more year, it'll maximize our chances next year, and for the years to come.

And it shows. Trey Lyles has benefitted from cake-baking. Trey Burke has acclaimed some trade value. Favors has shown improvements on offense, particularly at the 4. Hood and Hayward basically performed as expected, while Alec has more or less become the the third fiddle in the wing rotation.

We have a better idea of our squad than we did several months ago, and it makes our future that much brighter because of it.

All of us want this team to make the playoffs-- but I'm willing to accept the 8th seed this year if we get the 3rd seed next year. That's what it's all about.

Let's not be silly, he wouldn't be on the block if he wasn't having a down season, he will just 28 at the end of the season though. And second the whole point is that he is a competent vet who can be the bridge to Exum if Exum pans out or be kept and provide quality PG play for a reasonable cost.

I don't think cake bakers advocated doing nothing... I think we just didn't want to add high priced free agents that were not any better than what we already had at a position of strength.

If it was being proposed to trade Burks and burke for the #4 pick, get carroll in free agency, and try to find a 3rd point guard (green, cotton) then I think cake bakers would have been open to it.

All I ever heard was go get green/carroll/matthews. That's it.
If the plan is to simply add expensive talent at positions that we are strong at then why not deandre and millsap? After all favors and Gobert were our only good bigs (2 players) where our wings had three good players. And favors and Gobert are really both more of 5's.

Yet I never heard much talk of going after expensive bigs. Why is that?

And that's the funniest part-- because big depth is 100% the reason we dropped so many wins from what was expected. NOT wing depth.

Jeff Teague used to be so damn athletic at Wake Forest, he'd posterize defenders regularly.. It's fair to wonder about him slowing down. He's certainly not the same player that used to do this..

One of my personal favorite players in the NBA too. Wake Forest is my team in the ACC, I loved those teams before Skip Prosser passed away.

100% is really high... Chris Johnson and Ellijah Millsap say hello. Plus some of these wings were small ball types. Would have soaked up some of those PF minutes.

Chris has been fine. Tobias wouldn't help our defense at the 4. An argument could be made for Demarre, but are we really going to max a player that we can't even start? Just for insurance at our strongest positions?
