Gobert Injured in Practice: Grade II Sprained MCL

Are bets like that not void if the player isn't actually playing?
I have no idea but I think that would be bs. I made the bet that they made available to me. It's not my fault that they don't do their homework

Sprains can take longer to heal than a bone break usually. A tear in a ligament or tendon takes longer than both usually which is what his sprain is in.

I had an injury where the doctor told me it would have been better had I broken the bone vs. stretched the ligaments so badly. I am planning on 8 weeks with Rudy and I think our playoff chances are extremely diminished (20% or so chance we make it) unless we make a trade to bring in some help. I'm not sure we are as committed to the playoffs as we are to baking the cake, so I doubt it happens. A front court injury was possibly the worst thing that could happen for us injury wise.

8 weeks? Doubtful

Robert Covington had a similar injury and he was out 2 weeks.

Covington also aggravated his injury when he came back and was out an addition 10 days... did he come back too soon? His MCL may have been grade 1 as well... Not a great example to throw out there.

Rudy's is grade 2. Marc Gasol missed 23 games and 7 weeks with the same injury. Gasol is bigger, but Rudy is a large man and the Jazz training staff has been conservative in the past. My guess is at least 6 weeks and 8 weeks wouldn't surprise me at all.

I would be terrified he would re-injure it if he came back in two weeks.

I guess we'll wait and see. It's pointless to speculate.

There goes the bet on the over...
Nah. I know that you don't like the jazz and these kind of things make you happy but this injury came during the weakest part of the schedule and favors is looking fantastic, Burks and hood will probably step up, Hayward has finally found his grove, Snyder is a good coach, and now we should be better offensively and have more spacing.

Certainly we will lose a couple games that we would have won but it's not the end of the world or the season. Rudy will come back.
Sorry

People keep assuming six weeks but we haven't heard anything from the team so I'm not going to assume anything until the team releases a timeline.

Not releasing time frames is kind of standard procedure here... they also do the "financial terms of the deal were not released" after a signing as well. I understand why they don't do it but as a fan it's annoying.

I'm not sure being better offensively is a good thing to hope for after all our success has come from the defensive end, and pretty much no combination on the other side has been any good. I suppose we will improve and hope we do significantly, but I doubt it will be anywhere near enough to fill the void of Rudy's defensive absence. The guard play will plummet, and we will undoubtedly see 100 threads each about trading Trey n Neto, playing the 3 guard lineup, & then running a 4 or even a 5 wing lineup.

Is tleikheen your alt btw? You and somebody else are really trying to sell this hype.

I actually think we will be worse offensively and defensively with Gobert gone. Most of his minutes will be soaked up by Booker, Lyles, and Withey... none provides spacing and Booker and Lyles shooting percentages are awful.

I don't mind the optimism at all though! I hope you guys are right!

So why are Jazz waiting so long to release official info?
Seems like maybe not as serious as it sounds?

they generally don't release other info. I remember them not giving Memo or Boozer timelines either. There is no reason to do it and only downside for the player... say they think it's 4 weeks and the injury doesn't heal faster and it extends to 6 weeks... makes the player look bad. I don't remember them ever giving a timetable on any injury, but may be wrong.

Just said it was similar.

Sprains can be serious. I know high ankle sprains are sometimes considered worse than a break.

This injury sucks. I hope Rudy gets better and recovers.
