Gobert named finalist for DPOY and MIP

If only he was in a better market...

I don't think market is a factor. I think the reason he'll unfairly never win it is because of the reputations of Kawhi and Draymond among the media/fans. And the retarded arguments used by retarded voters. Rudy isn't going to win DPOY this year because of two nonsensical reasons. First, "he doesn't guard 1-5", like somehow that makes his defensive style less impactful. And second, Draymond barely missed winning the past two seasons so he "deserves it" this year. Voters don't use stats. If they did Rudy would win this year easily. He'll always be up against these nonsensical arguments.

I think you're being a bit unfair to Draymond. I hate him, but watching him against us was enough for me to come to terms with the fact that he will probably win the award. His impact is huge (not that it's as needed on that team)

I'm not saying Draymond didn't have a great defensive year. He did. It just wasn't as good statistically as Rudy's. And the thing is most voters who wrote articles explaining their picks couldn't even formulate a good statistical argument for Draymond. Most of them simply outlined how the deciding factor was that Draymond can guard 1-5 and Rudy can't. Overlooking the obvious thought that Rudy doesn't guard 1-5 not because he can't do it but because no coach on the planet is dumb enough to tell Rudy to go guard a point guard because he's a dominant rim protector.

Its Rudy's first dominant season, you rarely win awards in your 'breakout' year but people at least know who he is now.

Draymond is the most versatile defender in the league on the #1 defensive team in the league.

So is San Antonio right.
Ya it has nothing to do with draymond actually being a good defender. Only reason draymond has a chance at this award is cause he plays in oaktown.

Most nba cities are pretty big markets btw. Don't see many nba teams in idaho, wyoming, montana, Nebraska, etc for a reason.

Oakland ain't houston, new York, or Los Angeles though.

Honestly this award should go to deandre jordan cause dat market doe.

I mean obviously being in a bigger market means you get more exposure for the people voting on these awards. I'm sure they'll look at stats and such, but you're more likely to vote for someone you saw play great defense 15 times this season, versus one you saw twice.

exactly... Draymond could have been DPOY the last 2 seasons, it went to Kawhi on the back of his finals MVP performance.. there is a lag in awards. Draymond will win it this year, Gobert's real chances start next year. Do not worry people. If he loses this year he isn't getting screwed btw because Green is also a freaking defensive monster, they are neck and neck and "seniority" will prevail.
