Gobert Not Happy About Going to Dleague?

[video=youtube_share;LTkyKLkcVyg]https://youtu.be/LTkyKLkcVyg

From his first stint with the Jam. Watching Schroeder and Gobert play together gave me a Jazzgasm!

Also last night Gobert had 8 points 3 rebounds and Ian 13 points 4 assists in a 2 point Bakersfied loss.

I was at the Bakersfield Jam game last night. Every seat in the stadium is a courtside seat, so I got a very good view of Ian and Rudy.

Ian looked like he belonged in the D-League. He was above average for a D-League player, but nothing more than that. Didn't play great defense and I don't think his ball handling or passing is ever going to allow him to be an NBA point guard, and he doesn't bring enough else to the table to be a shooting guard, although I was impressed with his rebounding.

I was more interested and paid closer attention to Gobert. His body language and the things he was saying and the way he was reacting to his teammates was the most worrisome. He acted like he was too good for the D-League and didn't want to be there. He expected Super Star treatment from the refs and pouted when things weren't going his way. He seemed pretty disinterested in the game when he wasn't playing. He had a super strong block to start the game, had a couple of other flashes, but didn't do much to impress at this point. His hands were not good in this game and fumbled away a couple of passes and rebounds. He did work hard to be in good position for getting defensive rebounds, and probably would have had more if the other team missed more shots while he was playing. His legs are very weak and he is easily pushed out of position. He also didn't put himself in good positions to play good help defense and reacted too slow to protect the rim.

I completely understand why he got very little playing time as his team had a big comeback with him on the bench, however it was frustrating that he wasn't given more time to develop in the NBA development league. With all that said I still came away from the game excited about him as a prospect. He needs A LOT of development, but he's so long, moves relatively well for how big he is, and has enough touch on his shot that he could be very good.

Love the blocks at about the 1:40 mark

Gobert is huge! I miss him... Though Corbin did say that they might be called up next week, hopefully to see some time! maybe a trade might be coming!

@andyblarsen: Rudy Gobert had 23 points (on 10-13 shooting) and 14 rebounds for the Bakersfield Jam in a winning effort tonight.(yesterday)

Saturday, I watched LA-Idaho again. Pierre Jackson had a mysterous eblow injury and did not play but our old pal Kevin Murphy went for 39 in a winning effort for Idaho. They were missing Jackson and another player and Murph really stepped up. Manny Harris had 38 for LA following 49 points the night before. He must be a cancer given the Lakers need of firepower right now and he is in the building if needed. Perhaps Murph still might be a prospect.

super hard to tell when he only played 52 minutes all season last year

The old regime saw something in him to make a 2nd round draft pick and they have hit gold with the likes of Sap and Jeremy with that pick. Perhaps he's figured the game out or has gotten in better shape or both.

That is definitely possible, it is also possible that he is more comfortable playing with the ball in his hands and against weaker competition, especially with extended minutes to allow him to get a rhythm. I think certain traits pass well between d-league and NBA (rebounding especially, good sign for Rudy), but it's hard evaluating most stats in the d-league from a transition to the NBA mentality, especially scoring.

I remember a former Jazz 2nd round pick Kaniel Dickens was the most dominant DLeague player I've ever seen and he would get the call and go to pieces in the show.

Don't forget Almond (no)Joy

A coach using the D-League correctly for a rookie is something that should be praised.

I tend to agree with Cy here. Obviously the process Gobert went through was a good one. It is far more likely that his D League stint helped him.

Exactly. There were times Rudy looked completely lost on the court. Getting regular minutes in the DLeague helped his development. And I seriously doubt it was Corbin's decision alone. Lindsey would have given his assent. It may have even been Dennis' idea.
And unlike Hayward, it sure appears Rudy didn't hold a grudge as he gladly signed a new contract - despite Quin's first year when he was up in Rudy's grill at times.

These.

Nothing wrong with a little work. There's nothing wrong with letting a rookie earn what he gets, it only made him hungrier and better. I still remember a young rookie in DWill getting benched after a bad stretch. Then a month later regaining his spot and finishing the season strong. He hated the move but also recognized it was for his benefit, and made him a better player.

I think demoting Gobert had a similar affect.

As a 49er fan, I recall Singleterry throwing Out V. Davis, and it ended up waking him up, and he became a stud and leader on that team. He even said it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
