Gobert should start

Maybe this thread is ahead of its time, but maybe it isn't. If you have an imagination, I'd ask you to think ahead to December. Now watch the ball swinging from one side and then getting stuck in an Enes. Now see Rudy swarming around the defensive end and keeping the ball moving on offense.

He will start.

I can see it, tbh.

I have a problem with Favors/Gobert with regard to offense.. but Kanter's offense is offset, obvi.

I don't see Gobert starting.Definitely not this year.
What I can picture Gobert doing though is playing the Asik role when he played with the Chicago Bulls.Coming in at the 8 minute mark in the 1st and 3rd quarter and being a momentum changer for the Jazz .Denying baskets and cleaning up all the rebounds. This is a valuable and important role too.Almost by himself he can make the Jazz 2nd unit a unit to be feared.Add in Rodney Hood who has said he wants to be a top defensive player and either Exum or Trey Burke and you have no dropoff from the 1st unit and maybe a 2nd unit that continually plays better than all other 2nd units.....and sometimes better than their own 1st unit

The Favors+Gobert combo is really really interesting and worth exploring. It is a daunting presence in defense in the paint! Absolutely horrific for any opponent, I think! Purely theoretically, I don't see it working on offense, because it will clog the post and the spacing would be pretty screwed up if neither of them can shoot a 18 footer. On the other side ... if the other 3 are great shooters(I see this probably being a lineup including Novak, Hood and improved 3pt shooting Burke). Unfortunately this kind of line up needs both shooting and great passing and distribution of the ball. I don't see many players on our roster that have both those attributes. Hayward can pass, but shooting has been shaky. Burke can pass... but again, shooting not too good and also... he usually holds the ball more than he needs to. Burks can improve shooting, but to me his passing is a bit questionable. In best case scenario, Dante will improve massively his 3pt and hopefully will be able beat his man off the dribble and that could open lots of opportunities both with the bigs inside and with the other shooters on the perimeter after the defense collapses on Dante.

This is precisely my way of thinking. It's exciting on one side of the floor and definitely not on the other... unless we have shooters/passers at the other 3 positions.

I can see it working only because of what I saw in the scrimmage and summer league...... I know it's a crime to judge anything off those events but his defense and chemistry on that end, infected his teammates in a very positive way.

He also showed that he is a willing and able passer on offense and sets very good screens which also helps the offense.

Having said that... I still think kanter will show even more offensive skills and be a beast on the boards.

It's nice to have these three very young talented bigs to develop and see where they end up.

Yes. I think Kanter could be the best offensive player on this year's team, easily.. but can he hold serve on defense... ?

I think they become the backbone of the Jazz team this year and I see all three of them learning how to play with each other when they see how good they can be.

The threesome sequel.

I have hopes that he will.

IMO, the biggest difference that is needed defensively is the parimeter players staying in front of their man. If that gets corrected then Kanter, Favors and Gobert will look great defensively.

He should start once he is doing those three consistently: hitting 15 footers, featuring a back to the basket go to move, demand double teams and pass out of them.
Neither Favors nor Kanter do those consistently right now, but they are ahead of him.

Why does he need a 15ft jumper, or back to the basket game, or demand a double team? Eaton, and Ostertag never developed those things, but they were solid defenders, Eaton, more so, but Ostertage was really good when he gave a damn. If Gobert can be a reliable post defender, we already know how good his shot blocking, and help D is. If he proves to be a good rebounder and post defender, he can start. If he does those things, I could care less about his offense.

Hardly the same game anymore... Sadly

The workability of a Favors-Gobert frontline has as much to do with Favors' improvement as it does with Rudy's. If Favors takes a step forward offensively, which I think he will, then this combo becomes more likely. Derrick needs a 15-footer and the ability to work a little faster. I think Quin's system will install the latter. And, I think he's been working on that shot.

I thought the same ,why does he need a 15 ft jumper, the 7'1"Gobert is showing with his agility around the basket that he will be able to occupy defenses. This is the #1 reason I like Dante Exum right now.The 1st time I saw Exum pass and be a willing passer,I thought powerful slam dunks by Kanter,Favors and Gobert.Utah fanz didn't get to see that with Corbin coaching or Trey Burke not being able to create those kind of plays.Gobert....Kanter...Favors are going to be hungry for nice entry passes by Exum for easy baskets and hi-lite slams. These kind of baskets excite the team and fanz.

it depends on the style of quin's game. it will work well on defensive end, but i am not quite sure on offense
