I think it is extremely difficult to judge his intent here. Pretty reckless though.
I think he intentionally changed direction toward Rudy, causing him to hit Rudy in the legs. I do not think he intended to injure Rudy specifically. I think he was trying to keep Rudy from getting to the ball. However, just like I may not intend to kill anyone when I pull the trigger, I would still pay the price if someone were hurt or killed. For intentionally causing contact that caused an injury he should get suspended for a game or three.
Regardless of intent, it’s s dangerous non basketball move. Stuff like that shouldn’t be tolerated.

To be honest, it looked like he just lost his balance or was trying not to drive himself into the ground head-first, which is where his momentum looked to be taking him.
This is similar to the play that tore my acl, mcl, lcl and meniscus.
This requires ignoring the moment were he got recentered on his feet. I believe he could have easily stood back up at that point if he had wanted to. He could have also made a lunge for the ball, but I think he could tell he was unlikely to reach it. So instead he ducked his head and threw his weight into Gobert's shin.To be honest, it looked like he just lost his balance or was trying not to drive himself into the ground head-first, which is where his momentum looked to be taking him.
