Gobert announced that he will not play for France unless they make the qualification round down in Brazil. He is going to remain in SLC and work on his game and rest.

Saw the news on my phone but I am not posting from there. Check out Jennessy's twitter, has the link.

This is GREAT news and I wonder if Exum's injury last offseason has anything to do with it. DL was happy to let Gobert play as much Int. Ball as he wanted last year but not this year.

Favors is based in SLC as well. Wonder how many others will stick around and help push each other.

Work on your hands Gobert!!!

I can't lie I have wanted this since last season. Great to see DL finally taking control and putting his foot down.

Lol, DL was happy to let Gobert play last summer as well. He needed the court time.

This summer is different and he needs to rest and do skills work.

mods, please don't let this thread get nikkk'd

oh wait.

never mind, I agree with nickkk. DL obviously dressed Gobert in this suit and put him in his very own basement. Custom sewn, of course.

That's pretty much a guarantee they make the qualification round though, right? So he will eventually be playing for France this year.

It's still a lot better than to go play the entire summer. I would rather have him working out and not playing basketball much at all though.

Would he be doing this if he wasn't up for an extension is the question.
Talk is cheap. Gobert talked a lot about coming back stronger and improving last off season and regressed.

Regressed is a strong and inaccurate word.

I agree with Cy. Just because he didn't improve as much as last year does not mean he regressed.

A lot of us were saying that if Gobert could average a double double with couple/three blocks, we would be super happy. His numbers from this year were:

9.1 ppg
11.0 rpg
2.2 bpg
1.5 apg

Last year his numbers were:

8.4 ppg
9.5 rpg
2.3 bpg
1.3 apg

He was consistent this year, and that is a big deal for a young player.

numbers doesn't mean anything if u don't factor in the playing time. he played 31.40 mins this year, vs 26.19 mins last year. I would have to say his points per 48 mins has dropped!!

Agreed ,I've said from the start of the year Gobert would miss Exum the most of all the Jazz players .Exum was always looking for Gobert ,look for that to happen a lot next year.

It's not certain. I wonder who else won't go to that tournament. They are in a tournament with Turkey, Senegal, Canada, New Zealand and the Philippines. Only 1 teams qualifies. Canada and Turkey are no pushovers.

Rudy didn't regress. Fans expectations of his trajectory regressed while at the same time teams got better planning for him.

And coming off an injury has an impact on performance a well. He stated getting his legs back under him and was looking very good. I'm not worried about Rudy.

there should be a requirement that for every post by Cy there's a corresponding (and corrective) post by Stitches.
