Gobert's rise to the Greatest Jazz Center of All Time!

#42 Pete Chilcutt
Points 47
Rebounds 43
Blocks 4
Steals 5
Assists 10

For some reason I had high hopes when the Jazz acquired Chilcutt even though he was eight years into a mediocre career. He was brought in to replace the departing Greg Foster. He certainly wasn't the answer to getting us back to the finals in 1999. It also amuses me that him and Scott Padgett were on the same team for some reason. It's like we were into collecting white college allstars with no NBA game at precisely the point that we should have been getting real help for Stockton and Malone. But hey, at least we didn't trade Danny Ainge for the right to draft him like the Kings did. Chilcutt currently works as a sixth grade teacher, which is kind of cool.
This is pretty much how I remember Chilcutt on the Jazz

If you had to choose right now between Gobert, Favors, or Kanter to let one go, who would it be? For me it would be Kanter for his inability on D. If he can show he can hit a 3 with regularity, that could change. But Gobert is looking like a true impact player.

Kanter because his contract is over this year and we would have to actually pay him money. 2 more years of cheap Gobert after this year.

I also think Kanter is the most replaceable of the three, but I'm not a big Kanter fan.

Isn't greatest Center in the Jazz franchise some award that someone who averages 10-10 and 2 blocks over 8 years can easily snag?

Dat Memo Doe. Also Eaton. But yeah, when I update all of this Gobert is already in 30 something place, and is set to move up fast.

Mark Eaton was a tremendous player. I hope Rudy reaches that level. If he surpasses Mark the Jazz will be contenders.

If Gobert only reached Eaton's level, he'd be a disappointment considering what glimpses he offered this year so far.

Another Center that we picked up for the tail end of his career back in 1979. Out of the University of the Pacific he spent half of his career as a Knick. Averaging 10 and 9 in 1974. He won a ring as a sophomore on the 73 Knicks. Went on to play in his home country of Italy where he won a championship with teammate Mike D’Antoni. Was also known as the G-Man

Gobert needs to collect those lamb chop sideburns like a trophy. . .

Eaton was a two time DPOY, 3 time first team Defensive, 2 time second team. Before Karl Malone arrived Eaton led the team and the League in defensive rebounding. He led the league in total blocks and blocks per game 4 times. Once season he averaged 5 blocks per game, he is 5th all time in nba total blocks and 1st all time in blocks per game. At 29 yrs old he had a triple double scoring 15 points, grabbing 20 rebounds and blocking 12 shots.

You'll be disappointed if he is only an All-Star and a DPOY?
This.

And this.

Eaton was a helluva player in his day. Couldn't shoot to save his life, but he sure could change plays. For what it's worth, I'd likely rank Eaton ahead of Memo and Jefferson because he was so dominant defensively.

That said, Gobert has already shown incredible athleticism for a man his size. That block and dunk was phenomenal! There aren't too many centers who could block the ball and then be the first player down the court. There is certainly a chance Gobert DOES surpass all the rest. Will never be quite as imposing as Mark, but he'll be better offensively.

Framer...can I make a suggestion?
If you keep updating this thread. perhaps do it on combined points, rebounds and blocks. I know you list all of them, including assists, but it looks like the rankings are only on points scored as a Jazz player. Gobert is likely going to have more nights of single-digit points and double-digit rebounds than the other way around.

lol

Give us an example of the level that Gobert would have to reach to not disappoint you.

I can't believe you could say this about Eaton... Clearly you must be too young to have watched Eaton play. His defense would destroy centers in todays game. Not only that but he did a lot of the little things that never make it to the stat sheet, except in the teams W column. I would be completely satisfied if he developed to be half the player that Eaton was.
