Going on a Jazz road trip

How long will you be in LA?

I know I went to LA almost two years ago, and we managed to squeeze in a short trip to San Francisco while we were there (despite them being quite a few hours apart).

Fully, fully fully recommend checking out San Francisco, if you're in LA for an extended period of time. It is by far the American city that I have enjoyed the most. Not sure what it's like in the winter (maybe teh Bay Area folk like Beantown and squareinthecircle can elaborate), but I liked it more than LA, Seattle, and lotsa other cities that I've checked out.

$0.02 from a non-American

Really? I will have to check it out somtime then as I really like Seattle.

Oh dude, 100%. My entire family was mesmerized-- we were in Seattle the summer previous to it. I'm sure some might disagree, but I thought San Fran was freaking awesome. To me they aren't even in the same stratosphere.

The south is rad. Way rad. All the fun without all the pretentiousness and smugness of the yanks.

What do you mean by "rad." Redneck and macho, self-centered, that's one part South. I think Midwestern folks are more hospitable, but then I guess it depends on what part of the South. Southerners, for the most part, tend to be anti-intellectual too, which is why you get all these reactionary politicians elected there. They still are influenced by their antebellum roots, which is not a good thing. But the Aussie shouldn't have any problem with that.

Winter is imo the worst time to visit salt lake, it's kinda depressing here in the winter, tbh. The city becomes far less active, many of the best nearby hiking trails are simply not accessible, and it's ****ing cold. Salt lake is less of a city than it is a place close to the outdoors. If you want to go skiing check out Alta as it is beautiful up there, but be warned they don't allow snowboarding(other than Deer Valley the rest do).

Try Sapa, the Red Iguana, and Red Rock (restaurants)

Seriously though (if you don't have family here) I would recommend you spend more time in another city and less here. Come back and see Utah when it is warm.

I am born and raised in Australia and have followed the Jazz since game 6 vs the bulls (not exactly the best game to start following the Jazz on). That was the first game I was ever able to watch on TV here and was still pretty young. I've stuck with the team through thick and thin and even flew over for 3 Jazz game in SLC about 4 years ago.

I am now coming back and have decided to do a big trip. I am starting in Miami when we play the Heat on 16 Dec. I'm going on the road to Orlando, Atlanta and Charlotte before flying to Memphis and then on to SLC for the game vs Lakers, Bobcats and Bucks. I'm then going to fly to LA to see the game vs the Lakers on 03 Jan before flying home to Sydney. This will have me in SLC from 24 Dec 13 - 03 Jan 14.

I'm keen to see as much as I can in each city I visit and do as much as possible. Has anyone got any ideas of what is worth doing in any of these cities (I'm definitely going to Graceland in Memphis)?

I'm really excited about the trip and can't wait to get to the States!!

:D

I remember your username (I guess from the old board) and thought you did a trip like this before, or did you just have it planned and not do it?

I have a extra ticket to the bucks game if your interested hit me up

Born and bred in the east, educated in the Midwest, visited the NW, and having lived in the South -- that's my opinion. To say that the politicians in the South are usually far more reactionary than the rest of the country is not opinion, but fact. To say that the South is historically more racist than other parts of the country is not opinion, but fact.

So could you define "rad" for me?

Don't forget about our awesome air quality in the winter.

No ****. It's really, really, getting out of hand. We should be spending as much as possible on mass transportation, consider moving the refineries, and close all coal fired plants along the wasatch front. This **** really isn't fair to those that have asthma and it sucks for the rest of us too.

I'm "from" everywhere.. meaning lived about everywhere for extended periods... so no.. not a sensitive thing.
But when a guy says he's going to Miami and LA along with some other southern cities and you say please DoN'T judge murica on the south!!! 1! It kinda reeks of #2, tbpfhwy.

Yo, ADS.. PLEASE DO NOT judge America on SLC!

Whose sarcasm radar is not working? I was joking too.

PKM, You know Yankees don't get along with you southerns? Are you still upset about getting your asses kick in 1865. LMAO!!!!

Just for the record, I was born in CT, lived in Virginia and FLorida as a kid. Lived in Texas for a year and a half. Lived in Utah and CA as an adult and presently live in NH.

I have visited or driven through every state including Alaska and two of the Hawaiian Islands (Maui and Oahu). Lived out of the country and have visited four countries and want to do a lot more.

The one constant thing is there are good/bad people everywhere. Even in Kentucky!!!. LOL.

Only responding to those places of yours you listed. I have lived in Cape Cod, Virginia (just south of D.C.), every part of Florida, several places in TX, and a couple places in CA... and currently live in Utah. That's about 10% of my stops.

Serious truth. What I have found is the values of most everyone is the same (family, etc) but the method of communication is drastically different.. and I'm not talking geo-accents. I am referring to how loud, or obnoxious, or slow speaking, or whatever... a southerner and Bostoner are mostly likely to grate one another's nerves.. but it's less about 'being' different (at the core) and more about a discomfort with the cross-communication.

Every body east of the Mississippi can sit on it. Yanks and Rebs both suck.

There is soooooo much I would like to say about the specific verbiage of this post and not one thought would be permitted within the forum.
I will say that you have a few contradictory ideals in there.
