Well you morons voted and now here we begin the breakdown of the nation as we know it. Are republicans worried about jobs? Sure they are when it comes down to the private sector. Hope none of you work for the Military they are going to pay you but now while the government is shut down. While they still receive pay checks. Way to support you troops.

You liked it when the Supreme Court told corporations that they could have more power than the voter with infinite donations for Republican puppets who care only about deregulating and lowering taxes. You voted for the tea party freaks who promised you that government is the enemy. You voted for people who don't want the job, but would rather have it over someone who actually cares!!

It's your fault America. Land of the stupid and home of the blames. You let the angriest and out of touch Republicans of our country take hold of the House of Representatives in a failed pusillanimous attempt to take the entire Congress.

You want someone to blame? Look at your pathetic self in the mirror. Look at yourself while you ponder the rights you took away from gay people just to garner some votes out of the bigots. Peer into your selfish eyes while you consider all the religious people who think life begins at conception but ends at birth and their anger that was exploited simply to get people who hate government in government.
Republicans leaders aren't to blame; they told you strait to your face that they had sold their souls to the highest bidder. Republicans voters are to blame, every last one of you, from the fake "fiscal conservatives" all the way down to the angry people hating "social conservatives". I kind of see the Dems as the jackholes in this case. We need to cut spending. The GOP has proposed billions in cuts. The DNC is fighting the cuts. Why? Because it will help them get reelected.

SERIOUSLY REPORTERS NEED TO TELL THE TRUTH. IT IS ABSOLUTELY THE REPUBLICANS CAUSING THIS WHOLE MESS. The tax cuts haven't created a job. The same job loss going on now was going on when Bush 1 cut taxes. Job loss has everything to do with the employer based health and Benefits program. Thus they send the job's over seas cause the healthcare and benefits are cheaper. Want example. SEE EVERY REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS PLAN FOR CUTTING COST. Man PEOPLE HAVE SENT JOBS TO CANADA. The tax cuts cost about a trillion dollars in revenue. With no return on investment. We want to cut more programs. When the truth is. THOSE PRGRAMS ARE CREATING JOBS. Over the past decade the only thing growing jobs is Healthcare, Education, Business Services and Food Services. All ALL heavily subsidized by the government either directly or indirectly. Cut the programs you cut the last creator of jobs in this country. To illustrate china's tax rate on non High Tech industries is 25%. They create jobs all the time.WHY? So once again America is being held hostage by not facts and things we have learned over time as proven successes but over ideology and revisting failed policies. If you don't think the tax cuts were a failed policy. SEE GEORGE BUSH 1 WE HAD A SURPLUS. Greenspan created fake money through lowered interest rates he lowered them because the TAX CUTS DIDN'T STIMULATE THE ECONOMY. They used the fake money in the rising net wealth of America to create tax revenue. When that bottomed out OBAMA WAS LEFT WITH A FISCAL HOLE. Than can only be filled by RAISING THE TAXES. You want to reform medicare and medicaid ok. Do it under a balanced budget not when we're under a deficit. WE CAN'T BALANCE THE BUDGET WITHOUT RAISING REVENUE. Unless your going to CUT PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN THE ENGINE OF JOB GROWTH IN AMERICA FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS.

We do need cuts but you have to compromise and GOP is so worried about cutting Planned Parenthood, leaving the rich's riches alone, and not touching anything that really can reduce out budget like Military spending, SS, and Medicare. They are pushing an agenda driving budget when they should be trying to push for a better America
 
Conservative shouldn't get butt hurt have an adult conversation. These are who you elected. YOu can't take a debate and try to make into a martyrdom.

The only programs that are creating jobs right now are government programs. This is unsustainable. We need more private sector jobs, not inefficient government subsidized drivel. There are more people working for the government than construction, farming, fishing, forestry, mining and utilities combined. What the hell do all these people do? They are cushy, easy jobs no doubt when compared to farming or mining but they produce nothing. They manufacture nothing and simply create more of a drain on government. They add absolutely nothing to the overall health of the US. We are a country with a massive work force that essentially does nothing.

You want to start making things better? Start by helping your congressman cut government programs and spending.
 
What do you hail the shutdown as a triumph in the face of Obama and his socialist that are trying to ruin our incredible system of Capitalism. YOu must have a lot of $$$$ in the bank and a steady job (hope it isn't with the military they aren't going to get paid in the near future.)

Their are plenty of jobs they are just getting shipped overseas with tax breaks. What are you willing to cut? Military, Social Security, or Medicad?
 
So reading this I can come to only one conclusions. Republicans betrayed Jesus. Every single Roman that participated in Jesus' crucifixion were republicans. Republicans created abortion, then denied it to everyone, just to prove their evilness. Hitler was likely a pawn of the republicans. Obviously anyone involved in removing Hitler was a democrat. Somehow the republicans created a way to cause an earthquake and tsunami in Japan to squash competition. Republicans are the sole cause of global warming. Republicans cause all famines pestilence and drought on the planet. Republicans get together for contests to see how far they can kick puppies. Every republican is secretly a member of the KKK, only not as enlightened as the KKK. Republicans cause cancer. Ghadaffi and Saddam were republicans. Republicans are the only ones on the planet that make any money off oil. Republicans are the sole cause of syphilus, aids, cancer, rickets, shingles, and the common cold. Bad weather is a vast right wing conspiracy. Satan won't vote republican because they are too evil for him.

Democrats are the shining light of the world. Jesus and the apostles (besides Judas the Republican) were democrats. No democrat has ever cheated, lied, stolen anything, said a bad word, had any kind of sexual relations outside of marriage, said a hurtful word, crossed against the light, broken the speed limit, spilled any food on their shirt, failed to stop and help an old lady cross the street, or taken kickbacks from corporations in any way shape or form. Democrats never even use oil, let alone profit from it. If democrats controlled the oil companies oil would be 3 cents a barrell, then the oil companies would be shut down. Democrats have already developed perfect forms of alternative energy, including a generator smaller than a nickel that can power a city from the warmth of the democrats halos, but republicans promised to kill 50,000,000 babies if they ever brought it into production. Not a single democrat is a millionaire, since they give all their money to the poor and needy. Jesus would vote democrat but does not feel he is worthy. Most democrats are simply angels sent from heaven to ensure perfect life on this planet and have never made a single bad decision. Democrats are why the sun shines, birds sing, babies laugh, and puppies frollick.

The military is one of the few "government programs" that I agree the federal government has every right to subsidize and sustain. For the military not to be paid through a shutdown is the greatest travesty.

Planned Parenthood? I see no reason why a single cent of my taxes should support such an organization. I guarantee that if the plug was pulled today wealthy people would make donations and a privately run, not for profit organization would replace it within a few years.

Tax breaks for who? The US will soon have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. It's not about the cost of labor or unions. It's the taxes that these businesses would have to pay if they stayed in the US. You cut the tax rate for some of these major corporations and the jobs will stay here instead of being outsourced.

As far as what I'd cut. SS to start. Why is it the governments responsibility to "save money for me" so that I can retire? Why is that not an individual's responsibility?? It didn't even exist before the 30's. All SS is, is a program for the US govt to use your money for whatever the hell they want, interest free, until you reach a certain age and then they give it back to you.
 
Obama should send a note to every republican member of Congress thanking them for his second term.

The funny thing about this is the talkers were on this six months ago how this has all been preplanned by the Dem political strategists so they could blame the shutdown on GOP and rile up people like KOC BEGONE. Dems drug their feet on the new budget for months. They could have passed one without a single republican yea. But let's scream irrationally about the GOP right now.

Both parties are being boneheaded, but get a grip people. This isn't Armageddon.

Actually, Marcus, you'll be happy to hear that government is still shedding jobs while the private sector is booming!!! Manufacturing has pulled this country back from the bank induced brink. It's a beautiful thing. On top of it all, the lower real estate prices that are supposedly ruining this country are actually making us more competitive. "The rent too damn high".
 
So we have trillions to bail out wall street, banks, fund 3 wars, give away in foreign aid, flush down the toilet in Afghanistan's terrible President, continue the Bush tax cuts (Where are the jobs? I thought tax cuts were supposed to create jobs? Why has job creation been so sucky the past decade?), we can be East Asia's and Europe's police force, pay 50k for a single toilet seat in the army, and yet we don't have enough money to process our own visas and planned parenthood?

Struggling to see the repub logic here.

I agree we need to make cuts.

But why attack our own people? Lets start with cutting the war, slashing runaway military spending, cutting foreign aid handouts, and giving away money so companies can create jobs in India.

Why don't banks and wallstreet bail out the government now? Sounds like the government could use some help just right about now.
 
I do enjoy a good political thread. It's a shame that both sides have idiots like KOC and Millhopper. Tink, Log, Marcus (for the most part), Duck, and Pearl should be the only people allowed to post in these threads.

I'm going to pretend you're sincerely asking even though I know you are not. Economists [on both sides] can't really figure this out. The major thing that has been against job growth since 2002 or so is a peak in the labor market participation rate. It could not increase forever so it peaked and has been falling ever since (after 50 or so years of gains). Pundits, and average Americans like you (no offense meant here), like to blame it on this or that to drive an agenda, or, to make sense of it all. The bottom line is it's most likely just collective America doing what collective America wants to do, and that's a good thing.

We can continue to play the blame game, claim raising taxes or lowering them, union advances or decreases, etc. are what caused our favorite era of prosperity or poverty, but there is absolutely no proof in the numbers either way. In fact, graphing about 200 years shows real per capita productivity growth has been 2% per year no matter if it's Obama, Bush, FDR, Coolidge, or George Washington in power. This tells anyone who wants to be remotely rational that somewhere in the middle, somewhere between the anger at the extreme, somewhere the polar agenda's converge to create America. As a side note, isn't it ironic Glenn Beck says the right choices are somewhere in the middle? Wrong use of "irony" I'm sure, but anyway...

Despite all the claims, it has lasted us this long and will continue to do so. I love the extremes because there wouldn't be a middle without them. They make America work. We make America work.
