Fox 13 Utah - Gordon Hayward talks team loyalty

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot, but it’s hard not to think: What will Gordon Hayward do this summer when he can opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent? Hayward is definitely the face of the franchise, and now he’s an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career. But during Hayward’s post-game interview Wednesday night, the names John Stockton and Karl […]

Here's the full quote since I couldn't fit it all in the title.

"I think every player has different situations for reasons why they leave or stay. I think it's definitely cool when guys play their whole career in one city. I grew up watching the Pacers and Reggie stayed there his whole career, and he was a guy that everybody looked up to. I think it's definitely cool, like I said, every situation is different, every player has different things going on, you can't blame players one way or the other for staying or changing."

Not sure how I feel about this quote. Seems like something someone would say who is leaving..

Yes, very skilled response here. I think we can conclude one clear thing from his response: Hayward is not interested in declaring whether he leans toward staying or going.

We can imagine that he respects the choice players make to stay and that he respects when some players don't.

We're in a very good position to keep him around. Hayward seems like a thoughtful and deliberate guy. Hope he sticks around.

Hayward ain't going anywhere

Screw Hayward sign n trade him to the dumbest team in the league willing to pay the max. We don't need Hayward. What we need is a player that can take over a game. What we need is a Stockton to pair with are metaphorical Malone game changer Gobert. That guy influences every single game. All Hayward does is take advantage of the system an get his when it's there. He wants to keep talking bout keeping options open I say screw him an go get a loyal player that wants to build something special with Rudy.

Even if Hayward is certain he won't sign anywhere else he'd be pretty stupid to say so, given that he cares about getting a decent contract.

Hayward's a special player. Those can be hard to come by, not least of all in Salt Lake City. The idea that he coasts around and then just gets his is ludicrous. Even when he's off he demands attention from other teams such that everyone else's opportunities expand.

If Hayward wasnt a great basketball player he would be the most uninteresting person in the world. About as vanilla as it gets in terms of personality.

Committed family man, intelligent, diligent, committed to improving, intensely competitive, selfless, great locker room guy, good friend and teammate.

Boar- ring!

Hayward isn't leaving. I find all the speculation around him going this place or that place hilarious. He will sign a max deal with the Jazz. Why would he leave?

Haywards protocol software determined that was the best response to offer given the most recent data it had collected. It also determine his potential to leave necessitated some marginal hedging. His agent was automatically notified of the question real time and his statement was approved by his PR not. His software then notified him it was time to run his fingers through his hair as it was only performing at 87% of its maximum attractiveness.

I gotta wonder if Hayward is even worth the max. I mean he's our best and leading scorer, who takes the most shots, and has the most plays run for him, and the most screens set for him - who just scored a career-high 38 points.

Versus our non-scoring threat at center who just put up 35 points on 95% shooting without any screens or plays being run for him.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed here.

Hayward is Boston Bound.

You don't know what ya got till it's gone...

No he's not

Hayward has stated many times he wants to win.

With Boston he can get to the FINALS, probably next year. Not happening in the West.

I realize the Jazz can offer more cash but he is already set for life and generations with money so it's all about winning.

The $$$ gap will close a little with better endorsement deals in Boston.

I hope he does not, but if I am a betting man he will.
