Gordon Hayward: One of the worst Catch and Shoot "shooters" in the league

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Going through Player Tracking Data, I found an interesting, but not all that surprising stat on G-Time.

He is shooting 32.2% in Catch-and-shoot situations (defined as: Any jump shot outside of 10 feet where a player possessed the ball for 2 seconds or less and took no dribbles.)

For any players shooting more than 4 Catch and Shoot attempts a game, that groups Hayward with the likes of Josh Smith, who actually shoots a little better at 32.5%.

He shoots 29.9% on Catch and Shoot 3 point attempts. The worst for anybody taking 3 or more (he takes 3 a game). Also for comparison, Josh Smith takes 2.9 3 pointers a game and shoots 25.3%.

This gives him a Catch and Shoot eFG% of 41.6%. The worst of any wing who takes that many shots.

Tell-tale sign of bad shooting mechanics.

Or just a bad shooter.

Locke said he has the worse shooting percentage in the league for corner threes. I blame Sidney Lowe.

Role player at best. What role I dont even know.

I mean he still is only 1 of 5 players this season to be averaging 15/5/5 (LeBron, Durant, Westbrook, Hayward, and Carter-Williams) it's just his shooting has been awful.

I've seen a lot of promising NBA players suddenly lose their shot. Some come back, some don't. Maybe this is who Gordon Hayward is. A terrible unconfident shooting guard that can only average 15 as a number one option with 36 minutes.

Thanks Einstein for telling us what we already know. My question is can he be a spot up shooter while at the same time being the primary playmaker for the team, And if not, he needs to change the way he plays and shoot less, and just take shots he's comfortable with. I think it's a matter of him figuring this out. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing him average 10 points a game with 7 rebounds 8 assists or more, completely ignore shooting other then slashing and getting to the line a bunch. Though I don't think this is realistic for a player to completely just stop shooting, especially for a player like Hayward who has the Ball A ton.

@Hayward
"penetrate to detonate".
You will like it more, when you find out how easy and fun it is to score.

Hayward shoots 36.5% on drives (defined as: Any touch that starts at least 20 feet of the hoop and is dribbled within 10 feet of the hoop and excludes fast breaks.)

So sure it's better but only Brandon Jennings has driven more with a lower shooting percentage.

Why would you want to see Hayward average 8 assists a game? That would mean he's the primary playmaker for the team. No thanks.

Like last night!

He's clearly the best playmaker on the team, but then again I'm wasting my time answering this as I know your a hater when it comes to Hayward.

Well, yeah, because the kid is incredibly talented. Unfortunately, his stroke is complete garbage.

How did he do last year? I'd assume it was much better.
