Gordon Hayward Rookie Season Mix

reminds me of a young AK.

Hopefully same ****, different results.
Much thicker than AK. Not nearly so reckless. Lots more competitive fire. Much more committed to defending his man and less help defense. Not nearly as spectacular a shot blocker. Far better outside shooter. But yeah, they both play basketball for the Utah Jazz so they've got something in common. I guess I see what you're saying.

How long before someone compares him with Malone, Stockton, Dantley, Griffith, Bailey and/or Maravich?

None of those highlights showed him taking his man off the dribble from the three point line and pulling up for a fifteen footer. That's something I hope he has in his repertoire next year.

I was going to post this but I want to believe in the kid as much as the next guy. I don't see Hayward being a guy who can break his man down off the dribble. But he can be a deadly shooter off the catch, and he can learn to get more separation on his shot -- Granger has that little crossover, Pierce has that step back jumper -- that sort of thing.

at 1:02 he does exactly this. And at 2:32 he does as well, although he does get a screen there.

I love how you can see that his confidence grows as the season goes on, (along with his hair) In some of the highlights i noticed that he could have passed to an open teammate but he was confident enough in his ability to hit shots that he just took the shot instead

1:02 is close to that, but the play is still pick and roll, not an iso. Plus, the moves I envision aren't looping from the right wing to the left elbow. It's two or three steps and then pull up. That clip is encouraging, though. Shows he's capable of it.

Actually the Ginobili comparison some people made before the season started is starting to make sense looking at his footwork on the break and ability to use either hand effectively.

nice work on the video. Once again I am reminded that I am an idiot for not cheering when he was picked last summer. It's a very good thing that they don't ask my opinion on draft picks.

Maybe it was supposed to be a pick and roll but Fez didn't impede the defender at all so it may as well have been an iso. If he can do that looping from the wing with a defender right on him there's no reason to think he couldn't do it from the top of the key or anywhere else. And there are plenty of instances of him beating his man off the dribble and going all the way to the rack, so there's no question he can get around people. The bottom line is, if this is an example of one of his weaknesses then his potential is stratospheric.
