What's new

Gordon Hayward

Hey, I like West Valley*. Living there feels real, at least. You never run into anybody who smiles at you when they'd much rather spit in your eye. Give me a run-down working class town any day....

*I lived there, once upon a time, for a year.

I really like them. I have the Deron one as my wallpaper. What about Memo, Millsap, or Big Al? If it's not worth your time I understand. They are really well done.

A wallpaper with Jerry, Malone, and Stockton all together could be really cool.

Whatever floats your raft.

Somebody neg rep this man! It goes against my Hayward like morals to do so.

the truth is, i really want to like the guy.

i had no opinion of him either way when the Jazz originally drafted him. the only thing i knew about him was that he airballed an FT at the Butler-Syracuse game I attended at ESA during the tournament.

anyway, i hopped onto the bandwagon after the summer league games, in which he played very well. efficiency-wise, he was among the best players in either league (Orlando and Vegas).

then the regular season comes along, and he has pretty much sucked the whole way. sorry, but it's true. i really hope he'll pull his head out of his arse (soon) and start contributing in a significant way.

I'd hardly say he has sucked for a 20 year old late lottery pick. Gotta have realistic expectations.

He is 20 years old and has had limited playing time. His PER has skyrocketed over the past month or two. It was at 4 something after 2 months into the season...he is getting better. Also, he has played the 2nd fewest minutes of anyone on that list.

Lack of minutes is making him look a lot worse than he is. I've watched him closely when he does play; at this point he looks better at SG than SF, as his strength is lacking, but he's surpised me with his quickness, especially defensively and rebounding. Offensively he has been open for easy hoops while running plays and never got a look from the guy with the ball as he wasn't the option. He shows very good all-around instincts. And being a rookie, he's gotten his share of 'rookie calls' from refs...

I like that he plays fearlessly. After the first few games where he was kind of timid he has really played with gusto.

Exactly. He plays hard, gets after loose balls, but doesn't get out of control either. And, he doesn't back down from contact; in fact, he looks very good at forcing contact to draw fouls when he does get the ball. I think in a couple years he could become a very good NBA SG at 6'8".
