Gordon Monson, *******?

So this past week RSL revoked Gordon's press pass with the club citing that he had a vested interest in going negative on the orginization (they've since backed off). While I think RSL was being extremely thin skinned and banning media sets a dangerous precedent, it got me thinking about Gordo's track record over the last 2 decades.

Run in's with Jazz players (I remember a real nasty one with Howard Eisley), personal drama with Jim Boylen, reporting this past offseason that Whittingham was definitely going to BYU according to his "sources" only to follow it up the next week with "things changed" when that story appeared to be a flat-out lie. Utah doesn't have a reputation for being a tough media town like NY or Philly, but any time there seems to be drama with a media member, it always revolves around Gordon.

IMO, I find it happening a little too often. So what do you guys think? Is Gordo a good intention journalist hell bent on doing his job the the right way regardless of who it pisses off, or a shady attention whore that will do whatever it takes to keep his name out there?

I think the whole thing made RSL look like a bunch of amateur's personally. And they didn't necessarily back off willingly, they broke the rules of their own league, and were forced to back off by said league.

I have no problem with Monson. I think he's one of the few journalist in this market that doesn't pander to the teams and franchises in the market. He's a journalist and is paid to give his opinion if the franchises don't like it, that is not his job. The opposite of Monson would be Locke, everything that guy says is tainted in my view, because in the end it is skewed by the franchise he's afraid of offending.
