Graphic video released of police killing another black man in cold blood

No you can only post that if it supports the notion that all cops are evil racist pigs hell bent on nothing less than collecting the most scalps in the effort to exterminate the black race. I didn't read the article but if the guy isn't at least darkly tanned this in no way qualifies.

You sound a little defensive and upset. I wonder where that insecurity stems from? I have my guesses.

Yawn...

Seriously man, argue the facts and back off on the personal stuff.

I personally think there is a major problem with U.S. law enforcement and the prison industry. I don't think it's like a medium sized problem. I think it's a problem up there with the Holocaust (not even a little bit of hyperbole) or the systematic extermination of Native Americans. I think the U.S. is slowly killing itself largely because of these issues. No foreign enemy could ever harm us as much as we are harming ourselves by using our police as thugs and incarcerating so many non-violent people in privately owned for profit prisons that have no incentive to rehabilitate.

Maybe your "passion" will help shed some light on the seriousness of this issue, but you're dishing out a lot of friendly fire with all your vitriol and I don't think you realize it. You're also not doing a damn thing to win over any fence-sitters.

I appreciate the response and agree wholeheartedly with your second paragraph. I only responded like that to him because of the way he sarcastically characterized my stance (i.e. "hellbent on collecting scalps"). Have I ever stated it like that? To even make light of the seriousness of many black people's plight with attempted humor is revealing of his character and overall ignorance to the world outside his little shell. I'm not trying to win anyone over, certainly not on a message board. I just share links to stories and my immaturely and irresponsibly structured commentary.

It's my belief even if every post I've ever made on these subjects were carefully thought out and worded, all my detractors in these threads would still have been quick to try and discredit the dead victim's credibility.

Obviously this convo is being had all over social media/comments sections of articles/message boards/etc. (lol, Christ what has society come to) and if you read any of them when these stories break, there is always the group that is irrationally defensive of the white involved from the jump.

I don't think your interactions with log and others are being motivated by racial justice issues. If they were you would be concerned that you do that cause a disservice. I think it's clear that your outbursts have more to do with yourself than they have to do with civil rights. Your statement that you are not trying to win anyone over is BS. I think you desperately want to win people over and I think you want them to appreciate you. I think you are afraid they won't and so you lash out.

If you tone it down give people a little credit and the courtesy they deserve you will find that people here will appreciate you and you might even win a few over.

Yep. "Demonize" in the context of what has been said in this thread is definitely a fabrication. Thanks for proving the point.

My mother was an English teacher too; how festive!

Your explanation failed to change my mind, however.

The only realistic way to describe going from the victim-blaming blaming that did occur to "demonize" is exaggeration. There was some behavior at the basis; HighlandHomie did not make it up. Your wish to not recognize this is your own issue, and not worth further discussion.

Total swing and a miss. What a feeble attempt at playing message board psycho analyst. For what it's worth, it is my belief that I couldn't do any cause a service or disservice by posting on a message board. If someone who was unaware of these issues I post about happens to read about it for the first time on this message board, but decides to side with whichever side I oppose because they don't like my internet persona than they should be neutered. Not because they oppose me, obviously, but because they can't analyze a situation objectively.

The two cases of Mike Brown and John Crawford, specifically, got me so bent out of shape because anyone who looked at these cases objectively from the start (not from Hannity and Fox News' spin) would see how truly tragic both cases were. It's always unfortunate when someone loses a life, even a mentally unstable person who's threatening civilians/police officers with a weapon. But in the case of Brown and Crawford, both were most certainly a complete and total NON-THREAT to everyone around.

The evidence on social media from pictures/videos, as well as all the eye-witnesses, made the lack of action by officials even more infuriating - thus that's where my passion came from. Anyone who took the time to investigate what was out there for themselves would have agreed the PD grossly mishandled everything from start to finish in both cases, and even crossed the line of being criminal themselves.

If someone did read up and see everything (including pictures/videos from crime scene) and still came to the conclusion that the PD were 'in the right' or that Brown/Crawford deserved it, then there is nothing more to say other than they have some sort of warped agenda and perspective which in all likelihood is racist in nature. Those are facts. I know how weak-minded most humans are so they identify with phony/coincidental things like their race/nationality and are defensive of those things. George Carlin had an amazing bit where he said saying you're proud to be American or white or Irish is the same thing as saying I'm proud to be 5'9 or proud to have a predisposition for diabetes.

If you or whoever else reading this can't handle me asserting anyone who sides against Mike Brown and John Crawford is either weak-minded or racist (or both), then I am not going to apologize. But that's how it goes. I'd have more respect for them if they owned it.

Tell us about the protest this weekend or did you not go? link How much have you donated to the NAACP or the ACLU?

Since this forum is of little importance and you care so much about this issue, you must have done something greater to further the cause?

That is totally irrelevant to anything in this thread.

Seeing as how it has turned towards what your true motivations are I find it relevant,

There's nothing guarded or coy about my 'motivations', and there never has been. I just shared stories and my commentary. That's it. The fact that you feel like there's some ulterior motive is revealing in how you interpret these situations. Very revealing.

To use your own term "swing and a miss". It has nothing with how I interpret these "situations". Just how I view you. Something that is a product of your own phrasing and verbage.

But as GF already stated you're throwing out "friendly fire". So why stop now, right?

You made it relevant. You continue to post new threads about racism and then you dismiss the importance of what you say on this forum. If the issue is important and this forum is irrelevant then why do you speak up here and not where it might make a difference?

Just food for thought

A man just got shot and killed by an off duty officer in a shoot out. Officer never got hit, the man fired 3 times and the officer 17...

Here's a thought experiment:

What if large groups of African-American men carrying shotguns and semi-automatic rifles started moseying into stores across America to tout their support of open-carry gun laws?

Would they be greeted by the same anxious looks shoppers gave groups of armed white men who did the same this summer at Target stores and chain restaurants like Chipotle? Or something more lethal?

https://www.cnn.com/2014/10/10/us/guns-race/

They all look insane to me.

I'm all for concealed carry, provided the people are sane and have passed a background check (I know it's not perfect but whatever). Open carry....I think those people are lunatics by and large and they all scare the hell out of me.

On another note in the article was a picture that claimed it was in Salt Lake showing a gun rally with some moron carrying a Rebel Flag...was Utah part of the Confederacy and I just missed that? What's with these nutjobs carrying rebel flags around? Even if you're from a former Confederate state I don't get it...you're holding up the banner of the losers. I get and sorta dig the Don't Tread on Me Flag, but those guys were winners.

bottom line - the more we allow people to carry guns - whether it's concealed or open - the more the police will have the expectation that the "other guy" has a gun - and the more they think there's a weapon, the more they're gonna shoot - and when they shoot, they shoot to kill - so __________________
