Would you rather have Mirotic or Alen?

Why would u guys do this to @infection ... hasn’t he suffered enough

At this point Allen. If we went back in time Mirotic. But at this point Mirotic will be a FA next off season. We really need rookie salary players that can contribute for salary reasons long term.
Hard for a lot of people to understand the value of contribution level players on rookie contracts... And I'm not a contract, FO, trade machine type of fan, but I get the value of players on rookie deals.

Totally get that.... but Niko would be a starter on a good deal and having his caphold on the books might allow us to retain him next year and sign another FA... depending on how we ordered it.

Current Niko may very well be better than Allen ever is... most picks aren’t contributors ever... immediately is even tougher.

Grayson is old AF for a rookie so he may be different...

Another thing... when we traded Hood DL said a team offered a late FRP and we preferred Crowder. So we could have gotten a pick and had Niko.

We also had chances to get early seconds and elected not to... had we done the Niko deal we may have done one of those deals and brought someone in.

We also jettisoned off salary if we sent AB... we would then be able to clear max or close to it.

At the time I was on board with keeping the pick so I’m not judging... with the benefit of hindsight it’s a pretty easy call.

Niko without a doubt.

I think niko is the perfect compliment to Rudy and exactly who would thrive on the jazz and be a perfect fit. Really wanted the jazz to grab him.

This is probably one of the most idiotic threads I've read in a while. We were 2 games away from being the worst team in the NBA before we turned it around. Had no idea where we would land in the draft or who we would select. I'd like mirotic but you have to go with Allen right now. Wait 7 years or however long mirotic has been in the league to see if the trade woulda been worth it or not. If the player guys in, they'll be great here and he said he's buying in

Just for comparison's sake, the Utah Jazz, as a team, voted in Crowder for the "spirit of the team" award despite his being a new addition. The Bulls voted in the guy who punched Mirotic in the face. We may not have all of the information we need to judge on Mirotic. . .

Lots of other variables to consider here.

1) FO plan with Favors, and how Niko's contract for next year would have impacted that.
2) Same applies to Exum.
3) We sucked before the trade deadline, giving up a #1 is never something to do lightly.
4) Having rotation players (which Allen should be) on a rookie deal for 4 years is extremely valuable.
5) If NOP re-signs Cousins to max-ish deal, Niko will probably still be available as a UFA next year, or at the deadline this season.
6) Other stretch 4 options in free agency or available via trade.
7) As mentioned, Grayson Allen hasn't played a minute in a Jazz uniform yet.

Overall, I think Allen is a great fit in our backcourt rotation, and if there's another stretch big option available than the decision to not pull the trigger on the trade may prove to be a good one. Time will tell.

Mirotic is a 35.7% career 3 point shooter. He misses....a lot. You could argue that is not high enough to be considered a stretch PF. It's definitely on the borderline.

Do we know they didn't try to do this and that is why they were refusing to include a pick?
If they did, then they’re pretty dense to go get a pick from a playoff team, in addition to having to take garbage salary and include their own assets.

A stretch four is someone who stretches the floor. If you’re suggesting defenses will sag off of him because of that, well... ok. I’d actually prefer if they did, if he were on our team. That wouldn’t last long, though.

Again, you’ve gotta look at a lot more samples, dating back to Europe. And while you don’t think his numbers are great, correct those for volume. It’s the same ridiculous argument about Allen — saying his numbers weren’t eye popping and thus he’s not a good three point shooter. Your percentage goes down with volume. I’ve already detailed that his volume of threes for a 4/5 is unprecedented, and I’d recommend comparing his percentages to Love, Okur, and Dirk. Hell, even to legends like Mullin or Stockton. It’s even more surprising when you realize his numbers compare to their career numbers, but is far ahead when you are comparing all those guys’ numbers from their first four years.

If he were attempting 4 threes per 36 rather than 8, he’d probably be shooting above 40% and everyone would be saying “OMG he’s the best shooter at the four in the whole league.” That or dismissing it as a hot streak.

Another words he's taking bad shots. Yeah....that's a player flaw not easily correctable.

He shot 37.7% from deep this year, and 43.1% in the playoffs.

Donovan broke the rookie three point record on volume, not percentage. We’re all still cheering on that.

And we exclude last year as an outlier, he's like a 34% career three point shooter. See how cherry picking works?
