Thursday night had me closer than ever to Breaking Bad and opening a twitter handle. Didn't end up going that far but the pick did bring me out of JazzFanz retirement (rode off into the sunset many years ago with LTV) to share a few Hot Takes:
The Jazz will have nobody to blame but themselves if the headline from training camp this fall reads "Donovan Mitchell out for season after tripping over teammate and tearing ACL"
This just in!: The guy that lives in the Jazz Bear costume retiring, Jazz land his replacement with the 21st pick in this year's draft
Live from the NBA owners meeting: The Vote is 31-1 in favor of requiring the Utah Jazz to move their bench an extra 5ft away from the sideline
Today's BYU Daily Universe Headline: Jazz rookie hired as special consultant to Cooooooogar's men's basketball team, specializing in "defensive footwork"
Adam Silver announced tonight that the NBA has licensed the rights to FIFA's Red Cards, to replace flagrant fouls at all Utah Jazz games
All hot takes aside, I absolutely LOVE THIS PICK if for no other reason than it's redemption for missing out on the Jimmer a few years back. And give me a guy with some heart (even if it is black & blue) over the heartless Alec Burks, pin cushion Dante Exum, or sleep-walking Derek Favors any day.
Finally, I see the pundits are mostly giving us low grades for this pick. If the spurs had picked him at 18 all these talking heads would be screaming about how the genius Spurs did it again. Give me a break - they're not THAT good at drafting. So they hit home runs with Parker, Ginobili and the Kawhi trade, but nobody outside of Texas would've ever been talking about those picks if they hadn't pulled of the greatest tank job in NBA history and hit the Tim Duncan Lottery.
