Some highlights:

1. Whether Hayward accepts our offer this offseason, or another team's --he will be a Jazz player next year because of restriction. Dennis Lindsey is very high on him.
2. Still believes he will be an All-Star.
3. Hayward sings high praises for Trey Burke and his calming presence on the court.
4. Hayward says Evans has a good stroke from 3 pt range, and can play the 3 or 4. It's all a confidence issue with Jeremy.
5. Kanter is a great talent. Needs to work on consistency. Some days in practice he is incredible, and then the next day is being eaten alive by Gobert.
6. Hayward recommends the Hobbit <--dork.

Glad to see Lindsey is so high on Hayward and says he will be a Jazzman next year. Seems like Hayward is subtly hinting that Burke is the leader. we already knew that.

Did anyone think Utah wasn't going to say they are keeping him? Utah will offer 11-12 this summer. No one else will offer anything because they know Utah will match.

The good news is, we are a solid team. Add in a new coach, a top 3 pick, and a couple FA vets and we are a playoff team next year. BUT, we have to lose now. Starting with Wash and Sac. 0-2 is HUGE for the tank this weekend.

That pretty much answers the question if they're keeping him.

Not really. By saying that It deters other teams from going after him. If they feel the jazz will sign him regardless they may not want there cap space tied up for a short time due to an offer sheet signed by Hayard, and miss on other free agents. You could be right, and hope it's the case, but there are other options.

This has some truth. If Hayward gets a max offer then FO has to consider not matching. Its competitive tactics. Plus it jus the best thing to say so it makes Gordon feel good. You just wouldn't say anything else in this situation.

I dont want to lose Hayward just for the simple fact you are watching an asset walk that you put a lot of time and work into. But if some dumb *** team signs him to the max then maybe you just have to cut your losses and let that team eat that contract and watch them struggle to put a winning team on the court l. As soon as Hayward signs a max then he is no longer an asset. He becomes a burden.

+1
I think there is no real reason to not say this.

Hayward gets better as the season progresses, typically, so I'm excited to see what he's able to do by season's end.
He showed "#1 option" skill against OKC.. I don't think that guarantees him at that level, but it shows it is possible .

Alsoto,be a legit contender, you have to have end-game scorers - synonomous with "superstar"- to do isolation offense.. But if the Jazz have 3 or even 4 options for excellent end-game scoring, maybe there is more here than I've allowed myself to accept .. Namely:

Burke & Favors pick and roll
Hayward iso
Burks iso
Kanter post play

Depending upon opposition, depending upon who's hot , there is reason to think we've got something. Couple that with a good system, and the Jazz are 2nd Incarnation of Spurs.. I don't think of any spurs' players as isolation offense. They are exceptional players in an exceptional system..

What I thought was interesting from Lindsey was his take on the defense. He had some praise for Ty and the changes he has made. At the very end though he said something along the lines of "where are not where we want to be." Trouble for Ty?

There is no other statement to be made than saying we are going to keep GH. Whether it is true or simply posturing remains to be seen and it will not keep other teams from making an offer. As for saying "we are not where we want to be." If he has any other comment for a team that is winning less than 1/3 of their games we are all in trouble.

Lindsey wasn't asked if we were planning on keeping Hayward, but he responded with affirmation that we were. He was asked about his thoughts on Hayward because Gordon was waiting on the line with DL being unaware of his presence--could of just said he is a good player.

Agree that saying we will match at any cost deters other GM's from getting caught in a bidding war, but I still think the statement is more sincere when he offers it as an answer to a question that didn't demand such a reply.

I seriously doubt him saying that will deter anyone that wants Hayward from going after him. The will make Utah match or give him up. Worst case scenario is that they slightly damage a rival team's (in this case Utah) financial flexability.

RFA's found little to no market this last summer. Utah is in a powerful position with its cap situation and owning Hayward's rights.

I'd say the only way another team gets Hayward is if they offer the sun in a trade (for example, Boston giving up two unprotected picks and possibly Green as we'll).

Perhaps not. But if Hayward is valued enough by an organization, they'll make space to give him an offer. We do know there are a couple of coaches that probably value all he can do in Stevens and Hornacek and those organizations could clear enough space to make a max offer.

I think Lindsey was being honest in his interview. If you are Utah, the question you ask yourself is this:

Can you get a player in FA that is as good as, or better than Hayward? The answer is "no."

So, why in the world would you let Hayward walk for NOTHING if you are Utah. And, please, don't say "he is too expensive." Because, no matter the price, with the way Utah's salary cap situation is, he is NOT too expensive. So, if you are another team, the ONLY way you will get him is to give Utah the sun in return.

So, unless we get some unrealistic deal (which we won't, because Hayward isn't even an All-Star), Hayward will be back in Utah. And, unless you want to tie up your money for three days and get nothing in return, it is pointless to offer Hayward a deal (and piss off Lindsey).

So, all that being said, I don't think Hayward gets an offer from anyone else, and I think he comes back to Utah for a deal in the 11-12 per year range.
