Griffin hurts knee, Favors in?

Blake Griffin hurt his knee and is going back to LA for tests. Maybe Favors gets the call up now. If not Favors who else would it be?

Hoopshype says that Anthony Davis has been recalled to the Team USA training facility.

If one more big goes down I'd say that Favors has a good chance of being recalled.

Hopefully not. Less chance he gets injured.

Personally I think the potential reward is worth the risk of an injury. Favors has shown himself to be fairly sturdy so far.

Edit: I may feel this way because I rarely let risk deter me from something I want.

I thought I heard Coach K say Davis wasn't even practicing on the selection show because he was still too injured. Why would they bring him back?

Anywho, Blake being out sucks. I wanted to see his dunking ability on the Olympic stage.

I agree, but I just see all these guys going down and I hesitate to exclaim "hey take MY big guy next!" I would feel much better if he's getting injured in a Jazz uni.

No, no no. Team USA already told everyone in Salt Lake and Sacramento that there was NO chance of changing the roster to include Cousins or Favors because the Olympics requires rosters to be submitted in March, and the USA got a special roster ammendment in May, but it can't happen again. Olympics require months of drug testing that Favors and Cousins have not been part of. Forget about it.

Davis was already in the players pool, had the drug testing and nationality verified so he can be added to the roster.

So that would mean the only remaining alternates would be Rudy Gay and Eric Gordon. They would be eligible if needed right? When is the ultimate deadline for alternates to be called up?

Are there any big international teams that could truly take advantage of our lack of size in august?

Griffin's knees are going to go out early if he keeps trying to slam so hard on every single play. Have to preserve them ala Kobe Bryant.

Yes, for sure about Blake. That's why Karl lasted so long -- he played below the rim. And Jabbar, because he was so tall with such long arms -- 7-4 (thought they listed him shorter, he wasn't) -- he didn't have to jump that much, plus he was exceptionally skilled.

Did Jabbar ever jam? I just remember his sky hooks.

Definitely. They gave the United States a scare (2-point game in the 4th) in the gold medal game in '08 - and they played much of that game w/out Rubio then. Rudy Fernandez does a Manu Ginobili impersonation in international play, and the Gasol brothers could definitely bully their way inside. Still like the U.S. - but that figures to be a classic speed vs size game.

Kareem dunked quite often - when he was allowed to. While he was at UCLA the NCAA outlawed the dunk - primarily because Kareem (Lou Alcindor at the time) was throwing it down on everyone.
