GSW Draft Pick Watch

So GSW is tied for 7th worst with Sactown. I think the Warriors could pull out ahead of the Kings and probably the Wolves too, so that would put them 9th worst. We *should* be okay. The Warriors could also pass the Bucks and Cavs. So we're still projecting in the 8th - 11th range.

Wow, this team has an incredibly stupid 4th quarter offense. I think they went for 5 threes in a row towards the end. At 22 secs left, they should've gone for an easy 2, but went for a Ellis 3...how dumb could a coach get?
It's a great thing Curry's back, but wow...they're awful

Wizards, Nets, Sacto, Hornets, Charlotte, Detroit, and Toronto are all worse still.

I don`t think the coach wanted Ellis to take a contested three with 10 secs left with Marc Gasol in front of him...

GSW has won their fair share of games that they probably should not have. I see them as a team that is nearly as good as the T-Wolves this year. Unfortunately, injuries have really hurt their big name players whereas the T-Wolves have been able to avoid injuries to their big name players.

Jose Juan Barea is not a big name player.

From what I've heard and seen and read about the Warriors this year, Jackson expects "hero" plays from Ellis in tight games. They iso'd him on Tony Allen of all people two straight times a few plays earlier that turned into turnovers. He thinks that those "big man moves" will happen.

Serious question here.

Say GSW gets the #7 pick based off of record. I assume their GM goes to the whole televised NBA lottery deal. What if a team from 8-14 gets bumped up to a spot from 1-3? That would knock GSW down to the #8 pick, which we would get.

What happens then? Would the GSW GM leave the stage, and would KOC get to march triumphantly in?

This is the scenario I'm hoping for, just for comedic purposes.

That would be awesome. KOC fires off some NYE poppers, throws the beat box on his shoulder playing his theme song, then unceremoniously dumps the GS GM out of his chair and sits with that, "I don't give a comment" look on his face.

Picks are protected, not worst records, so it doesn't matter where Golden State finishes in the standings. If they get the eighth pick, it's going to Utah. There is no such thing as getting a pick based solely on record if you don't make the playoffs.

They don't have interior size or offense. Didn't have it last year. Don't have it this year. But they should be good enough to stay in the worst 8-10 range.

Well, if they finish with the fourth worst record, then they automatically keep their pick. I understand what you're saying, but records do matter in terms of probability. It's unlikely GS would fall at least two spots if they had the sixth worst record (4% probability), just as it is very unlikely to get one of the lottery spots if you finish 14th (1%).

There's actually a pretty big jump probability-wise of getting one of the top 3 picks between #7 and #8. The team with the seventh worst record has a 15% chance of moving up. The team with the eighth worst record only has a 10% chance. Guess what I'm saying is that I'm really hoping for GS to pull it together a little bit. If not, they could slide further down, even below teams like NJ, Detoit and Toronto.

Historically, it's been almost a sure thing that a team or two jumps into the top-3 that wouldn't otherwise be there. If the Warriors are the 6th worst then the Jazz are probably still fine.

That would mean two teams jumped them though. And they could be one of those teams who jumps.

At 6, I don't feel confident. At 7, I sort of like our chances that we slide one spot or more.

The thing about this team that I like is Steph Curry. He made all the Jazz players look like ladies at the Charity game.
Hopefully he's enough...

Also, are you guys sure that the pick will go to the Jazz if GS is 6th, but ends up getting 8th or something?

Agreed, I'm just saying the chance is still quite alive even with the 6th worst record (even if not ideal, obviously).
