What's new

GT: Jazz @ Super Sonics | 12/13/15 | 5pm MT

We have a good team, but we have no star. No closer. No leader.

Until we do this will be our result. Close, but no Clinton cigar.
I disagree. This core has won close games too. They have made the big plays in big games against big time players and opponents.
Remember Haywards game winner vs lebron at the buzzer?

Yeah remember that game last year Hayward came through?

You see that's the problem right there. Real stars come through all the time, and hit game winners a lot. Not just a few a season.

We have won close games this year too haven't we?

One really nice thing from last night..... Jazz only had 11 turnovers in a 53 minute game.... And only had a point guard on the floor for 17 minutes.

Took one of the best teams in the league to overtime in their building.

Seems that the 3 wing line-up can work.

I hope to never see neto on the court again

Still laughing about the closing sequence of regulation. That was hilarious, they totally deserve to lose after that.

Worst part was KD got into Haywards head.. 2nd worst part was they stopped getting to the line. That looked like a young team vs a playoff team with stars, it was still a GREAT effort from the team.

There's really not much anyones gonna do vs Durant when he gets hot like that, the fact that they kept it close and responded firmly to that huge run in the 3rd is a good sign.

Learning experience though, hopefully for Coach Q too (Get Sap out of the ****ing game in winning time) there were at-least a handful of positives - hopefully thats the beginnings of a hotstreak for Hood, he was cooking in the first half.

I don't think there is much to be frustrated. They made a big run in the Q3 and took the lead but we responded well, retook the lead and never lost it until the overtime. See the flow graph below:

IDK how that is suppose to make it less frustrating since that has been the main frustration this year, losing games because of one bad quarter.

Yeah, Burks/Hayward/Hood all played great. Everyone else was pretty meh. If Favors shows up and overcomes Adams physicality down low, we probably win. And we definitely win if we just make FT's.

NBA season is long my friend. I'm just looking at these losses we've had, and
what seperates us from other teams. Seems like we are close, but missing something. I think its a consistent closer, a star,
a leader. I dont see that on our team. YES favors and hayward have looked AMAZING some nights. Do they bring it enough?
Are they good leaders? I dont think so.

All the time? You think stars hit the game winning buzzer beaters all the time? That is cute ( I would assume most players have a below 50% success rate on these shots). Hayward ****ed up by passing (well making a bad-pass, if it had been accurate it would have been a wide open shot for Alec as opposed to a fadeaway over Durant). It kind of reminded me of something Lebron would do and get blasted for by national media the next day.

The free throws killed us

If you scroll down a bit, Durant has shot 32% from the field in the final minute of the game and 27% in the final 24 seconds of a game since 2006 (early 2015 article). It's a tired narrative that stars hit every clutch shot and that's why we lose games because we don't have that player. We are losing games because we are missing two starters and we can't hit ****ing FT's.

Also, if you look at most stats of players who have the best % in the final minute and final possessions of games, it's usually role players who are setup by others for easy shots (like Hayward poorly attempted to do). So the idea from Hayward was good but very poor execution.

Nah, it's really just having a healthy team and hitting FT's.

Another thing that bothered me about last night was some of our defensive possessions that we played perfectly, but ruined by jumping out at OKC's bad shooters. A couple of times we got the ball swung to Roberson for a 3 only to have someone jump at their pump fake (it seemed to lead to points each time too). We should do soft-closeouts on anyone who isn't KD/Morrow/Augustin to dare them to shoot 3's on OKC.

Do we all conveniently forget Hayward had the previous bucket that put us up? He hit that shot on Durant with :45 seconds left. That is the definition of a big time clutch shot.

It's also hilarious how many people are bitching about Hayward having the ball. So far Hood, Burks, and Hayward have all had the ball with a chance to win on a buzzer-beater and have either missed or TO and so far all 3 have failed. And without fail, everyone has bitched that the other player should have had the ball.

What about the fail of putting Favors on Durant on the perimeter. It wasn't even a switch (IIRC) it was plan by Snyder. That tells me Snyder was scared of Durant pulling up for 3. That was a dumb move. I could understand it if we had Gobert in the game, but there is no rim protector behind Favors and Favors can't stay in front of Durant if he drives. Just put Hayward on Durant and take the chance of him pulling it from deep. That is still a lower percentage shot than dunking.
