What's new

GT: Jazz v 76ers | 12/28/15 | 7pm MST

he's also had consistently bad body language about it all. I'd guess that he's letting the mental side of the game get the better of him. Shooters need short memories; he appears to have a very good one.

He made a 3 pointer 2-3 games ago and yelled something to the effect of "****, finally!". So yeah he is in his own head at this point.

yeah, I saw that. Sometimes it's difficult to remember that these are very young men we're talking about. As an athlete and a scholar, I got in my own way all the ****ing time when I was his age. Still do, in fact, to alarming degrees. Hopefully millions of dollars and good coaching/mentoring help Rodney (and others) develop a different state of mind. If you're Rodney, you want the magic that Reggie Miller and Ray Allen found.

A reliable deep threat (in volume and %) would work wonders for this team.

Does Ingles qualify? Every time he shoots a 3 I think it's going in. I just wish he'd get more consistent mins. He's one of my favorite players. Wish we could've gotten him in his early 20's.

He certainly has the % (41.7%) but has only attempted 2.1 per game this season, so no. I am talking the above 40% shooter that takes 5 or so 3s a game. (Which Ingles has done the last 2 game FWIW)

I know Hayward had a bad shooting night but he got to the line a ton and was quite a bit more aggressive then usual. Also there were a ton of times he drove the lane and took an awkward shot that missed because he was fouled but no call. Sometimes I wonder if he is public enemy #1 with refs. Never seen someone get soooooo obviously fouled only to have the refs pocket their whistle.

That three was clutch though. At that point Utah was down two, and I was pissed and didn't want to see overtime. All I wanted was for someone to take and hit a three. So to see Hayward take and make that three was sweet music to my ears.

2.1 attempts per is good for the mins he's getting though, which is why he needs more. He should get all of Sap's mins. I cringe every time he comes into the game. His good defense is Nullified by all the dumb mistakes and really bad fouls at really bad times he commits. Sometimes I think he's got to be the dumbest player in the league, sometimes.

Ingles seemed craftier on defense last year. To me, at least. Kind of like Paul Pierce in the sense that he found ways of staying in front, when athleticism seemed to dictate otherwise. This year he hasn't seemed the same.

If Hay got foul calls like say Lebron, he would get 20 ft per game. He has more no-calls than anyone I have ever noticed.

This is 1 area I feel Hayward is making big strides, Previous years if he was bullied up he would go into a shell

He would have never taken that 3 pt last years.

Baby steps...

Actually, that isn't updated for tonight's games (in which the Jazz had an absolutely horrible ORtg), so it might drop down as far as to 13th-14th after the update. But, given that tonight's game was played without 3 starters and our 6th man, such an outlier is expected.

Adding to that. Not only are we down 3 starters but we had 2 starters who are rookies and one second year player who missed a bunch of games last year so he's actually seeing most of these opponents for the first or second time. That goes the same for our bench also.

You start by saying Hayward is making big strides, but then by saying baby steps...lol

Withey, Lyles, Hayward, Hood, and Neto/Burke. Not a strong lineup, but capable of playing well enough to win. Have to stop playing Booker so much. He's been bad this season. The hustle off the bench role is all he should ever be. Withey has earned a shot to get more minutes with the starters while Gobert is out.

I apologize (but only a little) to anyone who may have had the displeasure of sitting by me in the 2nd half, I was negative as all get out at the game.

Pretty sure at half time the Jazz had 10 assists and ended the game with I believe 13 or 14, that alone shows how the Jazz offense "played" in the 2nd half. It seemed as though if Hayward wasn't creating for some one else no one had a shot, seemed like there was no offense to run just a lot of one on one (mixed in with pointless scared to shoot passes) players that had open shots are afraid to shot and passed even when the defense was playing them to pass and players shooting needed to pass because the defense was playing them to shoot. I felt like the Jazz didn't even know what a good "basketball" play was for most of the 2nd half. It's not about if you should shoot, pass or drive it is about running the offense and making the correct basketball play whatever it is.

I also apologize if anyone had to listen to me complain about Booker and Millsap getting so much time, I like them both but they're getting too much playing time, in danger of falling into the Raja Bell category. Players that have heart and hustle and you like them despite their warts, until they get way too many minutes and all you can see is those warts.

Whoever said they thought the Jazz would've won the Clipps game if Withey would've played the last 4-5min of the game, were you sitting by me as well? I said that when I was at that game and said it so many times in this game. The purpose of small ball is to create an advantage offensively but Booker refuses to take advantage when he's not being guarded and doesn't have the offensive game (or if he does maybe he should try showing it sometime this year) to take advantage of the small ball line up. I could go on and on but I'll stop and just say Booker playing this much time at C over Withey is really the first time I adamantly disagree with Snyder AND believe I'm right.

If we remain patient and allow the baby steps/growing process to take it's course, in about 5 or 6 years from now, Hayward will finally become the leader and all-star we've long been craving for. It's like riding a bike, you wouldn't dare take off the training wheels for a child until they were AT LEAST 17-18 years old right? Just be patient.
