GT: Jazz V Grizzlies, 3/4/16

Jazz are still sitting at 12 in the draft, with a brutal stretch ahead of them. . . If they lose to New Orleans (again) and Golden State, then I think they'll fall to #10 (with Milwaukee and Orlando moving up) they go full tank mode. At this point, that might be the best thing for them. Take their top 10 pick, plus other future picks to go out and get that offensive star that they desperately need.

Right, and who might that be?

Don't need an offensive star as much as we need depth and a defense that can get a stop every now and then at the end of games.

I didn't watch the game, but the tale of the quarters was sure weird, Blew them out in the 1st and 3rd (starters?) and got killed in the 2nd and 4th. To me that points to the bench. However, I'm pretty worried about end of game situations. Exum will do nothing to improve our scoring, So can Utah have a lineup of Favors, Gobert, Hayward, Hood and Exum? The first four + Mack or Neto have proven horrible on defense at the end of games - in addition to the fact they just can't score. I'm really not sure Gobert and Favors can be on the court together. They both need to be inside. Hate to say this, but I think this summer is critical for Gobert. If Rudy can't get his act together and improve his offense, hands, and FT shooting, it might be time to put Favors at the 5, get a stretch-4 and sell high on Rudy. Gobert can be a great defender, but he's such a liability in offense. Alternately, I guess you could trade Favors, but he's a true two-way player,

This man knows his stuff, so right about sell high on Gobert.

I love Fav's but he was soft last night, he was kinda stuck in the middle on everything. He didn't close out on his help rotations, didn't challenge shooters or guards on penetration and let Z-Bo go and do what he wanted when he wanted (minus the 1st Qtr). But okay Z-Bo does that to a lot of players so Fav's got his on the offensive end right because Z-Bo is slow, old and has never been a good defender right? Nope outside of the 1st Qtr he played agent kinda stuck in the middle, he mostly shot jumpers and missed most (minus the 1st Qtr) with no Gasol there wasn't anybody that could defend Fav's going inside and he showed that in small flashes and when he was in with the bench in the 2nd Qtr he needed to be the dominate player demanding the ball because no one on MEM should be able to keep him from scoring (consistently).

Oh and yeah I thought that MEM crowd was.... well it was weird, it seemed like a good raucous crowd louder than what I have come to expect from MEM but then I think it was a Lance Stephenson thing happened. Why? Because of course you root for "your" guys even if they do bat **** crazy things and other antics on the court, that took the loud energetic crowd to a frothy almost mob like mentality.

Its not just a closer we need.

We need some NBA caliber point guards, a few long range shooters, and a go to man.

We don't have any of that.

While the go to man is difficult to find, I do however think that this offseason we can work to address the former two problems.

Outside of Lyles and Booker (our two backup PFs) our bench shot 2-13. This team needs consistency. Upgrading our team by a few roster spots would do wonders for our record.
