What's new

GT: Kings 12/10/16

Haha.. I was gonna type that but didn't want to seem overzealous.

Well right now he's easily the most efficient offensive player in basketball and the probably best defensive player.

But yeah there is really no precedent for an NBA MVP with a game like Rudy - at least not in the last 30-40 years.

I get sad when I think about how someone is going to pay Joe Ingles 8 million a year for his next contract and pry him away from us.

I was thinking the same thing tonight. Honestly we will have no room to go after a FA, we can go over the cap to keep him, Jingles relies on his athleticism less than maybe every player in the NBA not named Diaw, he is still in his 20's(shocking) so.... maybe we should just pay him. The Millers should have plenty saved up after the last 5 seasons or so.

I was thinking the same thing during the game. Jazz aren't going to be able to pay Ingles what it takes to keep him - not while keeping the core players intact.

At least he is letting the ball fly now - earlier in the season I thought he was going a little Korver on us and protecting his stats in a contract year. He's not passing up shots that often anymore.

We'll get outbid on him and can't afford him if we have any intention of keeping Hood.
Will just have to hope Burks can stay healthy, and one of those 6 draft picks this year is NBA ready.

The cap isn't hard. Luxury tax should be somewhere around 120 million by the time we need to pay Hood. Right now we are paying 18 million for JJ and Diaw. I haven't looked into it enough but it doesn't seem impossible to come up with 8 for Jingles.

Random stat of the night

Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz scored a game-high 26 points against the Kings, his 10th straight 20-point game. It's the longest streak of 20-point games by a Jazz player since Karl Malone (11 in a row in the 2001-02 season).

I missed the game and just got home so I'm going to read this thread from the start(since it's only 9 pages) instead of watching my recording. Stoked! Hope we won...

That was fast. Shortest game thread of all time. Looks like Rudy continues to demolish teams. What a meteoric rise to greatness. I remember when he hiked to the top of Mt. Olympus with Gordon and Jeremy Evans. That's about the time I thought that he would pan out for us.

I'm rewatching the game(specifically for Dante's play). The first quarter was great for Dante. Played with good intensity on D, stole a couple of balls, pushed the break and assisted on several plays and finished one himself. Missed an easy reverse layup, and took Cousins off the dribble but missed the layup again(should be making those), but overall was one of the drivers for the quick turnaround in the first Q and he was especially good on D. Maybe he gets tired quickly and is still not in game shape.

I will keep watching Dante specifically. I'm loving what I'm seeing from him right now, but I know it gets a bit more rough past Q1.

I continue to contend that he's doing exactly what we wanted him to do as a rookie(be aggressive, take it to the rim, experiment with what he can and cannot do on a basketball court)... but right now his layups are not falling. I wish he would go strong to the rim instead of flicking those awkward on the run layups while trying to avoid contact.

edit: start of third Q... Dante looks lost on D. Gets stuck on screen and it seems to rattle him for the following possessions - he expects help, doesn't get it, gives up on the contest. Not good. This seems to shake his confidence and he seems to lose focus, seems hesitant about whether to switch or fight through screens on the next possession. Snowball effect - seems to get out of control quickly. It's weird, because he was doing very well going over the screen and recovering to his man in the same situations in the first half. Again - I don't know if this losing of focus is due to him getting tired or something else?!

If it's true, I don't like it. I'm not a fan of posturing and certainly not over beating the likes of the Kings, Suns and their ilk in some December regular games, especially considering this group has never won even one playoff game. I also don't like it because **** like this ends up becoming bulletin board material. Teams DO take notice. And our whole walk softly and carry a big stick, under the radar, just kicking *** and taking names persona leaves.

Just walk softly and carry a big stick, Rudy.

I see your side of it and also see that Rudy has swagger and confidence and believes that the jazz are a force to be reckoned with and I like that. He ain't scared to give teams bulletin board material..... whether good or bad, I like that he ain't scared.

Dante is 20 years-old. How can he be out of shape and tired? He's been working hard from all that we know. He shouldn't be out of shape. I think he just needs to get stronger.

There is "in shape" and then there is "in game shape". Having not played for more than a year with in-game intensity it could take a while until he's up to his optimal competitive fitness.
