What's new

Half of Americans die with almost no money

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

I believe the point is to do things with your money before you die, not to leave debt.
Do something good for the people around you, your community, your state, your country, things you care about.
I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I would possibly change things up a little bit to have a little something for your kids to make it through tough times, but you can do that while alive. Donate the 13K per person allowed each year to your kids and help them out that way, so you don't leave this huge estate that will be taxed a great deal when you die.

THIS!

Now this is a good answer.

Nope.
Because Ben Franklin fought against the idea of a central bank in the U.S.

https://www.dailypaul.com/42568/geo...ile-at-the-same-time-advocating-gold-standard

That article bitches about the Bank of North America. Benjamin Franklin was an investor & promoted it in his writings on monetary matters. He was extremely anti-gold standard from the state level but thought private banks such as this one could operate on the principle in the primitive system he lived within.

& you're flat out wrong about Franklin fighing against central banking. His thoughts on the matter are unknown, but he was as in favor of fiat currency as you can get. There's a reason we call them Benjamins.

Yes, and Franklin said "In the colonies we issue our own money. It is called 'Colonial Script'. We issue it in proper proportion to the demands of trade and industry to make the products pass easily from the producers to the consumers...In this manner, creating for ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power, and we have no interest to pay to no one."

Interesting that he's says this in the past, and hints on his beliefs.
Because once the Federal Reserve was set up in the U.S., we now pay "interest" for every dollar created and "lended" to the treasury.

He was in favor of fiat currency that carried no interest, in which our current fiat system does carry.

Hmm.... I always thought they called them the Benjamins because Franklin is featured on the 100 dollar bill.
My bad.

Then don't leave your debt for other people.

Based on everything that man has done for me in my life, I'll gladly cover that last check.

If you think this is being selfish on his part, I think that says a lot more about you than him.

Na, I was just giving you crap man.
I feel the same way.

Interesting response.
No.
Some may have lived off of there childrens work, but there childrens work was on the lands that they bought and paid for by them, and never had to worry about getting taken away because of not paying property taxes.

If you can't see that people are dying broke because of over taxation, over inflation, and the nanny state..... then you're DELUSIONAL!

Dear Lord. The average standard of living has increased multi-fold since the glorious days of our founding. The relative share, and plight of the poor, has meanwhile decreased significantly, while a social safety net now exists to protect those at the greatest margins of society. Workers now have rights, and protections, decent working hours, living wages, etc. which they didn't have before, making it harder (though not possible) for owners of capital to exploit them (which is their natural inclination). In the process, civil liberties/rights have been extended to nearly all citizens (still working on this one). Women, blacks, other ethnic groups, gays, etc. now have opportunities for economic, social, recreational, etc. activities that would have been unimaginable even 40 years ago. Average life expectancy has risen dramatically, and most Americans have at least some access to a world class healthcare system (still working on this one too). I could go on.

In short, American citizens as a whole are so much better off economically and socially, have greater freedoms and protections against the capriciousness of life and the market system, than even as recently as the mid-20th Century, and incredibly more so than the halcyon days of the glorious founding, or the mythical wonder years (a al 50's) that the social conservatives swoon for, that I find such arguments as yours to be totally detached from any semblance of historical perspective or actual on the ground reality.

Yes it's far from perfect, but it's so much better than it ever was before, such false nostalgia for the 'good old days' notwithstanding.

Interesting.
Greater freedoms?
See "The Patriot Act, or the NDAA.

I believe you also forgot drones patrolling the skies, cameras and cell phones watching everything you do, and of course naked body scanners at the airport.

I just love this country.

I agree with you on the Patriot Act, and I'm not a fan of full body scans at airports (I consider it overkill and intrusive). But, Yes, on balance we are substantially freerer today than ever before.

Don't believe me, then ask any one of the until recently oppressed minority groups who have struggled mightily, or who continue to struggle, to gain equal access to all the freedoms and opportunities this country has to offer, among them, women, blacks, gays, and now increasingly it seems Muslims.

As I said, your complaints strike me as totally bereft of historical perspective. Plus you also appear a little paranoid (you forgot about the black helicopters).

Hmm.... interesting perspective.

So I'm guessing you consider us more free today, because some minority groups in the United States are no longer oppressed?
This isn't a black/white/gay/straight/Muslim/Amish issue.

Are you aware that under the Patriot Act and the NDAA, citizens can legally be abducted and thrown into prison without a trial?

Did you know that under presidential executive order, (a single order from the president) the president can suspend congess?

Under those same executive orders, the president call also shut down all commerce, shut down all internet service providers, take military control of all supermarkets, roads, public transportation, and all public areas.

Do you know what happened during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina?

Oh yeah.... they confiscated everyones guns, including attacking on old lady because she had a small revolver with her for protection purposes in her own home.
